Request idea: what if Y/N and Kayce have recently started dating but Kayce already feels quite strongly. He notices that she has a specific habit in her daily routine: after work when she heads home she swings on the old swingset in the back yard. Kayce finds out that is like her version of meditating so she has been doing this at the end of everyday ever since she has a traumatic event, it helps her feel calm. So to ask her to move in with him at the foreman's cabin Kayce surprises Y/N with a beautiful wooden swing that he built and that's how he asks her to move in?

You didn't realize Kayce had picked up on your habit.

A few weeks ago, the Dutton ranch had been raided by thugs. They had trashed the place and shot at just about everyone. You were held at gunpoint for about five minutes until Kayce shot the guy in the back of the head. His blood had splattered all over your face, but he was dead, and you were back in Kayce's arms.

You had thought you would be okay. But every night when you would get home from work, driving past the ranch's sign on the way to your apartment complex, your heart would start to race. Your hands would get clammy and your breathing irregular. The doctor told you everyone would experience some type of PTSD with the situation, especially folks like you who hadn't gone through something like that.

There was a small swing set in your complex that you had gravitated too though. It happened the first night when you felt like you were suffocating in your apartment and you tried walking around outside. You sat down on one of the swings and with the movement, you calmed down.

That had been what you did every night since the attack. The first time Kayce caught you out there you had lied and just said you were waiting for him. The second time you said it was just a coincidence. But the third time, you confessed to Kayce, also at the request of your doctor, as to why you seemed to be on the swing set after work.

You told Kayce it was just a phase, but you were now two weeks into it. The problem you had was Kayce had asked you t move in with him before the attack and you said yes. But now you were concerned that you would lose the one thing keeping you together.

Currently, you were in Kayce's truck on the way to the ranch. You had packed a bag to stay the weekend and you were in full panic mode. It was getting close to the same time you'd come home every night and you were far away from your swing.

"You're quiet," Kayce mentioned, and he glanced at you.

"Just had a busy week," You gave an excuse.

"Everything okay?" Kayce reached over and laced his fingers with you on top of your thigh.

"Just tired," You tried again.

"Y/N..." Kayce could see right through you.

"How was your Friday?" You ignored him.

"I'm glad it's the weekend," Kayce nodded. "Glad you're coming home with me."

"Me too."

And you were glad. You loved Kayce and you wanted to move in with him. Your concern came from him having to deal with your problem if you couldn't fix it yourself.

"Why are you nervous?" Kayce asked.

"M'not," Yu mumbled.

"Your pulse is like a jackhammer," Kayce's thumbs rubbed your wrist.

"I know you know about my swinging," You sighed, deciding you had waited long enough. "I know we haven't really talked about it much, but it's just part of my coping. My doctor said it would pass...guess I'm just taking my time."

"Why does that make you nervous right now?" Kayce asked you.

"Because it's that time of day when I go out to swing," You looked over at him.

"Do you want me to turn around?" Kayce asked and you felt like crying at his sincerity.

"No," You smiled despite your nerves. "It's late and that would only add time to this drive."

"I don't mind if it makes you feel better," Kayce said.

"I'll be okay," You shook your head. "Need to rip the band-aid off."

But your heart picked up as Kayce turned off the highway at his exit. Your eyes looked at the ranch's sign as he drove under it and winded down the road to the main house. He past it, and headed to the cabin he now lived at, where you should be with him full time. But something caught your eye off to the side.

It was a love-seat swing set, made of a dark wood and standing to the right of the cabin. You could tell it was new, seeing as how clean it was and that you had never seen it before now. Kayce pulled his truck up in the same spot he always parked and turned off the engine.

"Kayce?" You asked.

"Mmm?" He smiled over at you.

"What's that?" You nodded to the swing.

"Oh," Kayce glanced at the swing and then back at you. "Just something I built over the week for you."

"Kayce..." You felt ears in your eyes.

"I don't want you to feel nervous," Kayce brought the back of your hand to his lips. "But until then, we can ease you out of this."

"You're gonna make me cry," You blinked at him.

"Maybe you and I can swing together and watch the sunsets?" Kayce smiled at you.

You leaned across the console and pulled Kayce to meet your lips in a sweet kiss. The thought was touching and probably the nicest thing anyone had ever done for you.

"I love you," You said when you pulled back.

"I'm sorry for what happened to you," Kayce cupped your cheek. "But we'll work at getting you back to one hundred percent eventually."

"Thank you," You pulled him back for another kiss.

"Come on," Kayce and you got out of the truck and walked over to the swing set.

He sat down, throwing his arm across the back, and looked up at you. You sat next to him, pulling your legs up and leaning against him as his legs started to push you both back and forth. You leaned your head onto his shoulder as you both looked out over the sunset.

"I love you too," Kayce pressed a kiss to your forehead.
