Kayden's pov

I dropped the phone on the cafeteria table, seeing Ava check her phone. I didn't mean turn down the offer but I can't go. A foolish part of me left my phone on when I was showering this morning. Mom walked in and saw the conversation between Ava and I. She took over thirty minutes to tell me how I should not hang out with the tycoon's daughter as it wouldn't end well for us. Due to her past with dad, she's now skeptical about me dating a rich girl. Funny thing is, we're not even dating.

But I do know one thing; I'm not going to go against my mom. I'm going to quit the Ava thing. Sadly.

The warning bell goes off and I walk out of the cafeteria, throwing my trash away. I decide to go to the ice skating rink as the cool air is relaxing. Nate didn't come to school today, meaning I was alone.

I sat on one of the chairs, pulling out my science textbook to read. I have fifteen minutes, better spend it wisely.
The sound of the doors closing make me turn to see...Ava?

Note to self: When trying to avoid someone, do not go into empty rooms.

"You're not allowed to be in here." She said, approaching my seat.

"I didn't know that." I say arranging, my bag to leave.

"Don't." She said, holding my arm. "I want to talk to you." She says with pleading eyes. Stay strong, Kay.

....
...
..
.
Sorry mom. I tried.

Ava sat on the seat by my left, fiddling with the hem of her skirt. She looked nervous. A side of her that cannot be seen outside. I should consider myself lucky but it only increases my nerves.

"Why don't you want to accompany me?" She asks, staring ahead.

"I...I'm busy on Friday. I have to help my mom at the cafe." I lie, regretting it immediately.

"But it's just for one day. I'm sure she wouldn't mind." She said, hopefully.

"She would, Ava." I sighed, staring down. "Why...why do you want me to accompany you?"

It's a question that's been plaguing my mind since my discussion with Nate. Why did she notice me all of a sudden? If she does like me, why was she still with Nick?

"I... I..." She stuttered, looking around frantically. "Did you mean it when you said you...like me?"

"Yes. Yes I meant every word." I say, feeling my heart rate quicken. Was this the moment?

"Well...I like you too, Kayden." She said, looking at her skirt, blushing furiously. It was insanely cute.

"You do...?" I say, smiling like a fool.

"Yes. I do." She says with finality. "And I want you to accompany me to my father's party on friday."

"I'll try convince my...wait...what about Nick? You're his..."

"Girlfriend. I know." She sighed. "We had a fight. I'm not going with him on Friday and he's aware of it...if it's such a bother to you."

"Oh...okay." I say. I felt like a rebound but it's better than not being noticed by my angel, at all. It also helps that I hate Nick to my very core.

"Great. I'll...text you the details later, okay?" She said getting up.

"Yes. Okay." I say getting up as well.

On cue, the bell rings, signifying the end of the break. Ava and I stayed standing in an awkward silence. Sure we kissed before...well...she kissed me but it only adds to the tension.

"I'll...uh...see you later." I say before turning to leave.

"Kayden?"

"Yeah?" I say, turning back to her.

She walks to me and wraps her arms around my torso, resting her cheek on my chest. She was very touchy with me which betrays the tough bitchy facade she shows the school. It makes me feel special that I get to witness this side of her. She pulls back after a while, before buttoning my vest, making me chuckle.

"Is this going to be a thing?" I smirk.

"I guess so. Please try to look formal in the suit." She said, fiddling with the last button.

"What sui.."

"See you later." She cuts me off, kissing my cheek before leaving the room.

"What suit?" I mutter to myself before running off to my class which I was already late for.

Thank God I read my books because with my punctuality record, I won't be able to keep this scholarship.
