✧.* season one, episode eighteen <part two>

(ᴍᴀʀᴄʜ 2006. )

It was too late in the evening, by the time she called Spencer, to go out for dinner that night. Which was probably for the best, because (y/n)'s heart hadn't stopped thumping against her ribcage since she first replayed his message.

Then, a question posed itself in her mind.

How long?

How long had he wanted to ask her to dinner? Although, perhaps the better question was:

'How long had she wanted him to?'.

But (y/n) wasn't stupid; she knew that their time spent together was never platonic - not to her. At least, now she could rest well knowing that it hadn't been for him, either. In the back of her mind, she knew she'd started falling for that boy the second he stepped into the bookstore, soaking wet and shivering.

Even day since they had only reaffirmed what she already knew.

Despite how comfortable she'd gotten with being around him, the idea of the two of them being something real made her more nervous than she cared to admit. When she'd told him her favorite flower and bade him goodnight, her hand shook as she set her phone down.

A part of her dreaded whatever they were becoming, because he'd quickly become a great friend, and if something happened and they went up in flames, she'd lose that too.

(y/n) pulled her hair back into a loose bun so she could wash her face and get ready for the night, the strands sifting through her fingers as she tied it with the ponytail. As she went about her night routine, the sound of records playing in her grandfather's room kept her company.

Which was nice, because that meant she could distract her mind and clear away the thoughts of Spencer Reid.

However, that didn't last long at all.

Her phone rang obnoxiously from her bedroom while she made her sleepytime tea, eliciting an annoyed groan. Who would be calling this late? Still, she padded across the well-worn floors, steaming mug of tea in hand, to answer it, not bothering to see who it was.

"Hello?" She called tentatively into the phone, a thousand questions running through her mind - along with irritation, because whoever this was completely ruined her nightly rituals.

"(y/n), hi! Ah, listen, I know it's late but-"

She nearly choked on her first sip of tea.

"Spencer?" Her voice rose, full of disbelief. "Can this wait until morning?" His end of the phone went quiet for a second.

"I'm sorry!" He blurted out, and despite her earlier irritation, a smile ghosted itself over (y/n)'s lips. "I just got back in town and I thought maybe we should talk."

"Why's that?" (y/n) hated the way that her voice began sounding so suspicious of him, but she couldn't help it.

"It's important," he stressed "i promise. Just- before you see anything, you need to hear it from me first. Can I come over?"

(y/n) glanced longingly at her bed, the covers looking irresistibly cozy after a long day at the shop. Not only that, but she was looking forward to starting her latest purchase - a dazzling novel.

Internally, she groaned.

Externally, however, she nodded.

"Sure."
