ANNE

It was a different Saturday morning than Anne was used to. Normally at this hour she would be helping Marilla with her Green Gables errands, then college work and preparing for her literature classes, and finally she would spend the rest of the afternoon waiting for Gilbert, who exceptionally had arrived home from New York early because of his college's recess.

But instead of doing her usual chores, she was once again sitting in Diana's living room, amidst tons of magazines with wedding dress models, which her friend stared at indecisively without being able to decide. They had been at this impasse for days, and Anne was terribly bored, because she was tired of giving opinions that Diana ignored without even thinking about them. She tried to suppress a yawn as she looked at Cole, who fortunately that day was her boredom partner. He looked back at her and rolled his eyes as soon as he saw Diana tossing the tenth fashion magazine into the distance, about to have a terrible temper tantrum.

- Diana, what is your problem in fact? I've never seen you take so long to decide something in your life. Usually you're practical and sensible, what's going on? - Cole asked, trying to understand her friend's real emotional state. Diana pulled back a long strand of her dark hair and answered:

- I don't know, Cole. My mother has been driving me crazy with her ideas about my wedding, and the wedding dress is only one of the problems. I'd like to just get married in a small church in the dress Aunt Josephine promised to give me, which my mother has been kind enough to refuse. It's always like this with my mother, she does what she wants and doesn't listen to me. It's my wedding, but she acts like it's hers, she makes plans without consulting me. I know I promised my father that I would accept her impositions, but this is already going too far," Diana sighed, holding her chin with her hands, leaning her elbows on the table.

Anne felt sorry for her friend. She knew about her fight with her mother that had been going on for years. They were two different personalities who had different opinions on things and rarely agreed on anything. Diana didn't care about labels, but her mother was fanatical about everything that had to do with society, but deep down she wasn't a bad mother, she just had distorted thoughts and views of what would be good for her daughter, and although Diana thought otherwise, her mother loved her in her own way.

What her friend didn't understand was that people build their personalities according to their beliefs, and changing them when they had already become an old habit was too difficult. Maybe if she saw the whole situation through a different lens, she wouldn't suffer so much from her mother's dreams of greatness, and would end up understanding her and thus improve their relationship, but from what she knew of her friend, this was far from happening.

- What does Jerry think about this? - Anne asked

- You know Jerry. He is the most peaceful person in the world, and he told me that whatever I decide is fine with him.

- Let me ask you a question and I hope you will answer me honestly," Cole said, adjusting his stylish blue beret straight from Paris, "do you really want to marry Jerry?

- What kind of talk is that? Of course I want to marry him. I love him," Diana seemed to be offended by Cole's question.

- So that's what matters. Focus on that and let the rest go. Let me ask you another question. Do you trust me and Anne?

- Of course, you don't even have to ask.

- Then allow Anne and I to choose your dress, for I am sure we will find one that is just right for you. What do you think of my proposal?

- All right," she agreed.

- Very well, then, go have some tea in the kitchen or take a nap, Anne and I have a lot of work to do," Cole said excited about his new mission to find the ideal dress for his friend.
