"MR. MATTHEWS STOP SPINNING IN THAT CHAIR. I got you guys here today because- Mr. Matthews stop messing with that!"
As Charmaine walked into the kitchen, Chet Hunter leaned against the counter, holding the phone in one hand and a suspicious look in the other.
"The school called," He began, his tone teetering between amused and accusatory. "They said you pulled the fire alarm during chemistry class."
Charmaine didn't even flinch. She grabbed a glass from the cabinet and filled it with water, her expression cool and composed. "You have zero proof it was me" She said taking a sip. "I want a lawyer until further notice."
Chet burst out laughing, pointing at her proudly "That's my lucky charm right there! Chemistry doesn't even matter anyway." He gave her wink, only to yelp as Virna smacked him on the arm with a disapproving look.
"Chet don't encourage her." Virna said, her hands on her hips. Turned to Charmaine, her toned softened, "Honey we believe you if you say that you didn't do it."
Charmaine placed her glass down and smiled sweetly "Thanks Mom!" She leaned over planting a kiss on Virna's cheek, then turned to her Dad and kissed him on the cheek too, "Thanks Dad!"
Chet chuckled rubbing his cheek, "Well aren't we a little politician today?"
Charmaine grinned as she walked towards her room feeling victorious.
Just as she reached to her room the phone rang again.
"Charmaine it's for you!" Virna called out.
Charmaine hesitated, then sighed dramatically.
she walked back and grabbed the phone.
"Talk to me." She said, her tone casual.
