On Mavis's way back to Ladair Castle, however, she soon found herself accosted by a group of five other vampires near the edge of the town, who wasted no time in invading her personal space and refusing to leave her alone.
"Well, well, well.....what do we have here?" the one in the middle of the formation asked in a rather taunting tone. "Looks like the vampire's lord's future heir."
Mavis scowled at him.
"Oh no, wait, I'm sorry," he continued, making a mocking attempt to "correct" himself. "I'm supposed to say 'heiress' now.....right?"
The future Queen of the Enclave tried to ignore them and keep pushing forward, but her attacker physically grabbed her by the cape and pulled her back into the fold, while his other four lackeys cracked their knuckles and stretched their necks.
"Can I ask you a genuine question?" their leader inquired.
Mavis rolled her eyes. "What is it?"
"What happened to the 'Mason' we used to know, hmm? Are you some kind of.....freak?"
"What? No. Leave me alone....."
"I'm just saying; not a lot of people choose to change their gender when it comes to their visage."
"And? What exactly is wrong with that?"
Her bully threw his hands up and glanced around at his crew. "You see that, boys? The poor thing is confused. He.....she.....er, it doesn't know where it belongs! Or even what it is!"
"Maybe it has some kind of mental disorder," another one remarked. "Or maybe it's just a phase. It'll come around eventually."
"I already have," Mavis asserted. "I know who I am; I don't need anyone to tell me. I'm a girl, and you have to accept it. Now, please.....get out of my way; I would really hate for this to get ugly. Then again.....it kind of already is, with you all around."
"Okay, that's it. You and your mentally-disabled dysphoric self aren't going back to your little pad just yet. We're going to have ourselves a bit of fun first," the head of the bullies said. "Grab her!"
Mavis tried to bolt away, but two of the five vampires seized her by the arms, while a third swept her legs out from underneath her and knocked her onto her back. Then, the third one teamed up with the fourth one to pin her legs down while the first and the second focused on her arms.
Finally, the fifth one—the leader and the one who had done the most talking—bent down before Mavis's helpless form and started to pull down her leggings.
"No......don't....." she groaned.
Just then, all six of them were startled by the sound of a loud electric guitar riff a few feet away. Mavis lifted her head and saw her older brother Theo standing before all of them.
"Step away from my little sis now," he ordered sternly, sounding like he had taken a page from Balfort's book. "Attacking a member of the royal family is so bogus, dudes.....you all should know better."
"Apparently they don't," another female voice said in reply. Mavis then turned her head to the left and saw Lily approaching the scene as well, her flute held tightly in her hand just as Theo held his electric guitar. "That's my friend you're messing with, and I'm going to need you all to stop."
"I'm going to give you all five seconds, and if you don't let go of her, then I'm going to have to.....wait. Who's this girl?" Theo asked, using his head to gesture towards Lily.
