Today was a new day, and technically your first actual day at your job, since yesterday was basically just an introduction. Will you be treating any injuries, perhaps not? Who knows.
You arrived at the stadium, and was ready for anything. You felt confident in your skills since it's what you've been practicing for these past years.
You headed over to your office to start going over each players history of injuries. You needed to get familiar with them in case something came up.You were then walking around running some errands here and there. You went down to the field to check up that everything was flowing smoothly. You were heading back until you got a call through the walkie-talkie, someone had gotten hurt.
You quickly ran back to the field with your first aid kit to see what was up. You got there and you saw someone on the ground holding their knee in pain. It was the same guy from yesterday, the one you felt you recognized.
You ran to his side to see what was wrong. "What happened?"
"I'm not sure I was just running and my knee gave out on me, but it hurts too much" he responded.
It was clear that he couldn't get up himself so you asked for a stretcher to take him to your office. Someone came running with a stretcher and you both picked him up and placed him on it. You guys carried him over to your office and placed him on one of the beds.
You checked his knee out, moving it different ways to see what areas hurt when moved certain ways. You also asked him a couple questions to rule out other types of injuries he might've had.
You then wrapped his knee up, a bit tight for compression and also gave him ice.
"Well you got a minor knee sprain, it'll need 2 weeks of recovery, so no practice for 2 weeks"
"Are you kidding me" he replied
"Ya, you better not play, you need to rest it, if not you'll just injure yourself more and you'll need therapy"
"Fine" he responded back. He didn't seem pleased hearing that he won't be able to play, especially since in a week they had a game coming up.
"Como te llamas, I need to write your report to give it to your coach, that way he knows" you asked him
"Oh no there's no need, I'll just tell him I'm out for 2 weeks"
"Ok I'll take your word for it, you better tell him though"
"I will I will" he said putting up his hands in defense
You smiled at him.
"Well you can leave if you'd like, rest up, compress your knee with the bandage and ice it every night, I hope get better quick"
He slowly got up and was limping but he could walk on it at least, which was the good thing. He limped over to the door slowly. He then slowly turned around and looked at you.
"Uhm can you help me carry my stuff to my car please" he said with an awkward smile.
"Of coarse I can" you said laughing.
You went down to the field and grabbed his stuff and walked back. He was halfway there to the parking lot by now. You caught up to him and then found his car and you helped him pack his stuff in the back.
"Thank you, and uhm you sure I can't at least juggle the bal-" he said while getting in his car.
"No sports activities for 2 weeks, and you better tell your coach" you replied
"Fine and I'll call him once I get home" he said all bummed out.
He closed his door and waved goodbye to you and smiled and you did the same thing. You noticed he had a nice smile, which made you smile a bit more.
What am I thinking
You cleared that thought from your mind and walked back. By then practice had ended for the team. You cleaned up your office, locked it up and went home.
It was a successful first day.
