Request - The reader and Kacey just had a baby and Monica comes to pick up Tate and is somehow jealous of their newborn? And her and the reader start having an argument and Kacey defends his wife (the reader).
Everyone had told you the magic rule – sleep when your newborn sleeps. But you couldn't pull yourself away from watching her sleep in her small bassinet nest to the couch in the living room. She was so tiny, swaddled in a light lilac blanket. You heard Kayce's soft footsteps come up as he bent over the back of the couch, pressing a kiss to your forehead.
"You should sleep," He whispered to you.
"I will once Monica leaves," You leaned against his arm.
Another set of footsteps were heard, and Tate came around the corner with his bag. He had been with you for a few days, meeting his little sister and spending time as a family of four had done nothing but made you long for that to be a permanent reality. But it wasn't, and that was okay in the long run. This was your family's normal.
"Do I have to go back?" Tate whined for the twentieth time.
"You have school," Kayce leaned back up and looked over at his son.
"But I want to stay here," Tate walked up to the side of the couch and sat on the arm rest.
You smiled, reaching out and wrapping your arms around him, pulling him back against you as he snuggled into your embrace. Tate eventually leaned his head down on your lap as he looked at his little sister sleeping. Kayce sighed, walking around the couch to sit next to you, wrapping an arm around your figure.
"You'll come back here on Friday," You reminded Tate.
"That's five days though!" Tate sighed. "She'll be bigger then."
"Buddy, I need you to be a big kid about this," Kayce warned, making you frown. "Do you have everything packed?"
"Yes." Tate mumbled.
"Your toothbrush?" Kayce reached around you and pinched Tate's ear.
"No..." Tate rolled his eyes but got up and ran back upstairs.
"He could stay more?" You whispered, looking up at Kayce. "He hasn't missed much of school this semester."
"He needs to go be with his mom," Kayce reached up and played with your hair. "And selfishly, I need to be able to look after you more and it's easier when I'm not having to entertain him all the time."
"I'm just fine," You rolled your eyes, but leaned closer to Kayce. "And you've loved having Tate all to yourself these past few days."
"I have," Kayce smiled. "But I need to help you more...I need to bond with her more."
Kayce looked over at his daughter and you saw his eyes brighten. It made your heart soar anytime you watched Kayce with his daughter. It was new territory for him, having always been a boy-dad. But when you woke up in the hospital one morning and he was sitting with his little girl, talking to her, you started bawling so much your heart monitor beeped.
There was a soft knock on the front door and Kayce sighed. He slowly got up, kissing your forehead as he made his way to the stairs in time for Tate to come down. You stood up slowly too, still being slightly sore in some spots, and walked around so you could see the hallway towards the front door.
Monica gave Tate a tight smile as she appeared once Kayce opened the door. You couldn't hear what they were saying too well, but when you saw Monica look back at you, you could figure it out. Kayce nodded his head and moved to the side, letting Monica in. Kayce and Tate walked out front to what you thought was put Tate's stuff in the car. You reached up and messed with your hair while Monica stepped into the living room.
