Few weeks later
Kayce realizes he wants to have a baby her baby but he dont know how to make it up to her and the rest is up to you. But it might be too late after seeing Lee with the reader.
You were already out of this hand in the game, so you sat back in your chair. It was close to midnight, and almost the entire team had decided on a game of cards to wind down the evening. You were currently seated between Kayce and Beth, Lee was dealing with, all of whom were still in the game.
You had known the Duttons your whole life, and after school, John had hired you to be their veterinarian on the ranch. This place had seen so much over the past five years, especially since Kayce came back. You had tried to steer clear of him, both of you having a past. But it made it extremely difficult because Kayce viewed you as one of, if not his only, close friend. But he was married, or was married...after the loss of his second son, Monica had given up and left Kayce and Tate altogether. It had been rough, there were times you weren't sure Kayce would make it, but having Tate pulled him through.
That was six months ago and now you and Kayce were exploring a real relationship. John was over the moon, as was Beth. But lately, you had a growing feeling inside you that had taken over your thoughts for the most part.
You were twisting your fingers around one another, a bad habit you've had since you were a kid. You did it subconsciously when you were nervous, something Kayce had always known about you. As he threw his cards down he leaned back and glanced down at your lap to see your hands. He reached over and held both of your hands, halting your actions and making you look up at him. He nodded towards the door and pulled you up when he stood.
"Night y'all," Kayce said as you followed him out to the dirt of the corrals.
"You didn't want to stay?" You asked softly. Kayce laced his fingers with yours and you felt your heartstrings pull.
"Nah," He shrugged. "I'd much rather know what's going on in that head of yours."
"Nothing," You shook your head.
"Ain't nothing," Kayce tugged on your hand. "What's wrong?"
You stopped walking and faced him in the light of the lanterns hanging on the barn. Feeling like your stomach was in your throat you took a deep breath.
"I want a baby, Kayce," You said softly.
"What?" Kayce asked.
"I want a baby," You repeated. "I know everything...but I'm not getting any younger. And I've always wanted a baby."
"Y/N..." Kayce dropped your hand and ran his hand through his hair. "I just lost..."
"I know it's stupid to ask you," You looked down. "But it's just been on my mind lately."
"I finalized my divorce last month," Kayce put his hands on his hips.
"I understand," Yu mumbled, knowing you weren't going to hear anything you wanted to hear tonight.
"You don't understand," Kayce snapped. "You haven't lost a child."
It was silent between the two of you. Kayce's words felt like a slap in the face to you. You had been nothing but respectful of everything he had been through. You had given him grace and comfort, but obviously, that didn't seem to impact him enough to at least be reasonable with you.
