Request - I was hoping for the reader and Kayce get in a really big fight, things are said, he tries to stop her leaving but she drives off into the night. I don't mind after this, he could go after her and catch her up, or something more dramatic. I'll leave it up to your wonderful writing skills xxx
The beeping of the machines is what really brought you back to consciousness. Slowly your eyes opened to see you were in some hospital room, or maybe a clinic, you weren't sure. You felt groggy, heavy, and you needed some water as soon as possible.
"Oh good, you're awake," A nurse had walked by, stopping when she saw your eyes open. "How are you feeling, Mrs. Dutton?"
Your eyes narrowed at her. You weren't a Dutton. Sure, you had been dating a Dutton for almost five years now, but there was not a ring on your finger. Looking down, you saw you were in a gown, an IV coming from your left arm.
"What happened?" Your throat was scratchy, and your words came out hoarse.
"You were in an accident," The nurse frowned. "Can you tell me the last thing you remember?"
You thought back some, trying to put pictures in order from your mind. You don't remember an accident at any point, but you remember dinner last night.
"I remember dinner," You coughed. "Could I have some water?"
"Let me grab you some," The nurse turned around quickly and left.
You remembered the dinner last night at the foreman's cabin. Kayce had apparently had a difficult day with his father, coming home later than promised, covered in dirt, and his gun missing three bullets. But he refused to tell you why.
You tried to pull yourself up in the bed, your lower back hurting from where you had been laying down. When you moved though, a shooting pain went straight through your left leg, and you winced.
"It's not broken," The nurse was back. "But you damn nearly did when you slammed into the fence."
Fence?
She handed you the water and you almost cried when it touched your lips. You chugged the small cup in one gulp before handing it back to her.
"Let me go find your husband, okay?" She smiled and turned around again before calling out, "Try to not move too much."
You leaned back against the pillow and tried to take a few deep breaths while also trying to figure out what happened to you. Closing your eyes, you thought back to the bits and pieces you remembered...
"What exactly do you want me to do then, Y/N?" Kayce snapped at you.
"I want you to live where I'm not worried, you'll come home in a body bag, Kayce!" You yelled back at him from across the table. "I don't think that's asking for too much!"
"You agreed with me when I took this job," Kayce threw his hands up.
"I meant your father!" You rolled your eyes. "If anyone's gonna get you killed it's gonna be him and one of his personal vendettas."
"And you always wonder why I don't tell you everything," Kayce frowned. "It's because you blow things out of proportion, and you don't let me explain."
"Explain?" You let out a humor-less laugh. "Baby, you don't talk to me at all. You've barely said hello and goodbye this whole week to me."
"It's hard when all you want to do is fight," Kayce sighed.
"Because you won't listen when I try to just have a simple conversation," You argued.
"God, I'm trying here," Kayce snapped, standing up. "If I wanted this type of treatment I'd have stayed with Monica."
