Harley has never been on a date before.

She often fantasized what it was like; climbing flights and flights of stairs until her legs felt like jelly was not her ideal way of starting one.

The apartment building was dimly lit by the little bit of sun that peeked through the crack beneath the door and it smelled of wood dust. Harley took a minute to catch her breath once she made it all the way up the stairs of the apartment building that Race had taken her to before. She stood in front of the door with her hands on her knees, doubled over as she took heavy breaths.

She jumped once she heard the sound of the door opening in which she heard a familiar voice snicker. She stiffened her posture and faced the owner of the voice. "Race!" She scolded and crossed her arms.

"still want'a climb every single step of tha Eiffel Towah?" He smirked and an eyebrow twitched up.

Harley had on a confident smile. "yes I do." She sternly nodded without taking her eyes off of the blonde.

Race looked down and let out a chuckle before looking back up at her. He opened the door and stepped aside, holding it open for her. "come on," He nodded his head to the side and motioned for her to go first.

On the surface of the rooftop was a blanket held down by four rocks in each corner. On it was a little basket and two canteens laying beside it. Behind it all, the sun had just started to set and the once blue sky was now temporarily painted with oranges and yellows.

Harley let out a small gasp and ran to it. "Race," She breathed.

He followed her. "I knows- I knows, it ain't much an' Kath helped me wit' everythin' but-" Harley interrupted him by giving him a small kiss on his lips which instantly made him flush red.

"it's perfect, really." She smiled in which Race let out a breath of relief.

"truly?"

Harley nodded and replied, "truly." Race motioned for her to sit down and once she did, he sat down and oriented himself so that he could face her.

"well jus' keep in mind that if ya don't like it..." Race's voice trailed off and he rubbed the back of his head. "most'a it was Kath's idea."

Harley let out a short laugh. "I love it all, Race. Everything is perfect, I couldn't imagine a better first date- I didn't actually try to. I wanted it to be a complete surprise to me and it was and I love it, I love it all!"

Unable to hold back a grin, Race looked down and looked back up at her. "I'm glad ya do."

They stayed on the rooftop until a little after curfew; the perks of being newsie leader is that newsies can no longer tell Race what to do in which he took that to his advantage at times. During their date, Harley spoke of all her dreams in life, especially her most favourite one- which is to become a famous author and write stories until her head runs out of ideas.

"maybe if ya get hard up on material, you can write 'bout us newsies." Race suggested, now laying on his stomach with his chin resting on his arms.

Harley still sat criss cross apple sauce and leaned back, staring at the sky. "I'd have to be pretty hard up then." She chuckled and looked down at Race, who smiled up at her with blue eyes bright with adoration.
