Chapter 35

As I step into my room, a wave of relief washes over me. The silence and stillness of my surroundings are comforting, a welcome change from the chaos of my day. I take a deep breath and feel my body relax as I sink onto my bed.

I close my eyes and allow myself to sink into the peacefulness of the moment. The cool air conditioning hits my skin, and the softness of the sheets beneath me feels like a gentle hug. For a moment, I forget about the stress and the worries of my day, and I am completely present in the moment.

As I lay there, I reflect on the events of the day. It had been a hectic day, filled with meetings, deadlines, and endless emails. I had felt overwhelmed and exhausted, but now, in this moment, I feel renewed. The weight of the world has lifted off my shoulders, and I am grateful for the peace that surrounds me.

Looking around my room, I feel a sense of pride in the space I have created for myself. The soft lighting and cozy decor make it a haven for me, a place where I can retreat and recharge. I am grateful for the little moments like these that allow me to appreciate the beauty and simplicity of life.

As I drift off to sleep, I am filled with a sense of contentment. Maybe things aren't so bad after all, and perhaps tomorrow will be a better day. But for now, I am grateful for the peace that envelopes me, and I am content to rest in its embrace.

...

When I wake up, I stretch my arms and legs, feeling the warmth of the sun shining through the window. The birds are chirping outside, and a gentle breeze blows through the curtains. I take a deep breath, feeling the fresh morning air filling my lungs.

I quickly get out of bed and start getting ready for the day. I put on a comfortable outfit that is suitable for walking around the castle, grab my bag, and head out of my room.

As I make my way through the castle's hallways, I can hear the sound of servants bustling about, preparing for the day ahead. I pass by the grand dining room, where the large wooden table is already set with plates and silverware, and the smell of freshly brewed coffee and baked goods fills the air.

Finally, I arrive at the courtyard, a spacious area surrounded by tall stone walls, where many castle residents spend their free time. There are benches and tables scattered around, and a beautiful fountain in the center.

I notice James sitting on a bench in the garden again. He looks up and sees me approaching. "Hey, Amelia," he greets me warmly.

"Hey, James," I say, approaching him on the bench where he's basking in the warm sun. "What are you doing out here again?"

"Just enjoying the sunshine," he replies, flashing a friendly smile and patting the spot next to him. "Wanna sit down?"

I hesitate for a moment, unsure if I should trust him. I don't know James very well, but something about his demeanor makes me feel at ease. So, I take a seat beside him, and he immediately starts talking about the castle and the surrounding area.

As he talks, I can see the passion in his eyes, and I find myself becoming more and more interested in what he has to say. He tells me about the gardens, the woods, and all the animals that call them home. He seems to know a lot about the place, and I can't help but ask him more questions, wanting to learn everything he knows.

We continue to chat for a while, and I start to feel a genuine connection with him. He's easy to talk to, and I feel comfortable sharing my own thoughts and opinions with him. I never expected to find a friend here in this castle, but James has proven me wrong.

James looks at me, and I can't help but feel a little nervous. He stands up from his chair, and I notice he's taller than I expected. He extends his hand towards me, and I'm not sure what to do.

"Wanna go for a walk?" he asks with a big smile. Is it appropriate for me to go out with a stranger? But then again, when was the last time anyone asked me to go for a walk? So I decide to take his hand, and we start walking around the castle.

James points out different features of the building, and I can tell he's passionate about its history. I listen intently to what he has to say, fascinated by the stories he shares. He tells me about the people who have lived there over the years, and I feel like I'm learning something new about the castle every step we take.

As we walk, I start feeling more and more comfortable around James. He's funny and charming, and I can't help but enjoy his company. I find myself laughing at his jokes and smiling at his little quirks. It's refreshing to spend time with someone who doesn't treat me like a pet. It's almost like we're just two people going for a walk, and I'm grateful for the change of pace.

James and I stroll through the castle gardens, taking in the sweet scent of the blooming flowers. The sun is setting, casting a warm orange glow on everything around us. I feel a sense of calm and safety with James by my side. We make our way back to the courtyard, and James turns to me, flashing a charming smile.

"I've had a really great time with you, Amelia," he says, his tone genuine. "I hope we can do this again... tomorrow maybe."

I return the smile, feeling a warmth in my chest. It's nice to have made a friend in this place, especially one who seems trustworthy. "I'd like that," I say, my voice soft.

As I walk back to my room, I can't help but replay the moments I shared with James in my mind. There's something about him that's different from the other pets and guards in the castle. He seems more...real, somehow. I remember the way he looked at me, with a hint of admiration in his eyes. It's a stark contrast to the other pets who are always so submissive.

I can't help but wonder what it would be like to have someone like James on my side, to have a friend who isn't afraid to stand up for what they believe in.
