CHAPTER EIGHT
[ S01, EP08 : "Karma's A Bitch" ]

Sitting in a chair next to Buck, Amelia winced as a nurse stuck a needle in her arm to draw blood. She had never been a fan of needles, even as a baby. Whenever she went for her shots, she would always scream and it was always her big sister, Maddie, that calmed her down and made her smile again.

"Not a fan of needles, huh?" Hen chuckled lightly at the expression on the blonde's face.

"Nope." Amelia said. She was holding her breath, so her words sounded like she was struggling to talk. She let out a heavy sigh of relief when the nurse told her it was over. "Thank god." She sighed before holding a cotton wool ball over the area where she had been stabbed.

"So, I want to thank everybody for donating today. I don't know if you know this or not, but ninety percent of all the blood given to patients in the Los Angeles area comes from volunteers." Chimney said as he slowly walked past the seated volunteers.

He continued; "I know that we all put our asses on the line in the field every day to save people but today, you're saving people and all it's taking is a tiny prick of a needle. So simple, even Mr Buckley can't mess that up."

Amelia laughed at Chimney's dig at her brother; and all Buck could do was look at them both with a sarcastic smile.

"You still at it, huh? How'd you do?" Bobby asked as he walked over to Chimney.

"Incredible." Chimney replied. "Everyone donated. Some people even came in on their day off."

"That's great. Alright, well, let's wrap it up. We got to start our shift." Bobby said before he started to walk away. Chimney flipped through the sheets on the clipboard. "Uh, hold up." He said before turning to face Bobby. "Looks here like I am two pints shy of my goal for the day."

"Well, that'll give you something to work towards next time." Bobby said.

"Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. You're the captain of this house and you're the only one who didn't participate." Chimney said.

"I don't like needles, end of story." Bobby said.

"Oh, come on..." Hen began as she and Buck stood up. "Captain, come on. You gotta donate."

"I don't give blood. Alright? I never give blood. When I was a kid, they tried to take my blood and I bit the doctor." Bobby said.

Buck and Chimney had to stifle their laughter, so did Amelia when she overheard the conversation. She quickly straightened her face when she caught Bobby looking at her. "It's not funny." Bobby said. "And the one time someone tried to take my blood as an adult...it didn't go well."
