———————————————————
The previous day had been a lot for everyone. RWBY, Jaune and (Y/N) have finally reunited, the bees finally sorted themselves out and Ruby has finally gotten Crescent Rose back. Everything is finally looking up.
Unfortunately, one particular red hooded girl is having a little trouble with looking up right now. Ruby hasn't gotten a good night's sleep since Atlas and everyday it gets a little harder to be the bright smiling leader that her team needs.
Ruby awakes with a small shout, her heart racing and her mind replaying the vivid images from her nightmare inducing past. Her eyes struggle to adjust to her surroundings, her vision clouded and unable to focus on any one thing. She throws the covers off of herself and rushes out of the house, suddenly desperate to feel the cool night air.
(Y/N) stirs slightly, the breeze from the opened door bringing her discomfort. She opens her eyes slowly, haphazardly surveying the room. Only when she's about to doze off does she realise that a certain red hooded girl is missing.
Now much more awake, the still tired girl shoots up, analysing the room as to where she had gone. A cold breeze catches her attention and she turns to the opened door. She stands up carefully and heads for the exit, being careful not to step on anyone as she does.
Ruby's red cape sticks out like a sore thumb in the pitch black horizon. The young leader seems completely zoned out as (Y/N) approaches, not even noticing her presence.
"Ruby?"
The younger girl lets out a small yelp, caught off guard by the unexpected noise. Ruby turns to face her friend before looking away. She quickly wipes away the tears that are brimming her eyes in an attempt to hide her current state of distress.
"Hey, (Y/N)!" She greets, shoving down her feelings with a bright smile. "What're you doing up?"
"I wanted to check up on you, Rubes." (Y/N) explains, taking a seat next to her friend. "Are you ok?"
Ruby says nothing as her mind has an internal battle of weather or not to open up. All of her doubts and fears seem to bubble to the surface, threatening to overflow. That one simple question can lift so much off of someone's shoulders. If they only let themselves lose it.
"Yup! Absolutely fine! Just couldn't sleep, nothing to worry about!"
Lies. Complete lies. Luckily, (Y/N) was well aware of this fact.
(Y/N) chooses her words carefully, looking for the best way to get Ruby to lower her guard. The two sit in an uncomfortable, almost suffocating silence. Ruby begins to fidget, her hands wringing out each other as she anxiously waits, silently praying that (Y/N) believes her words.
"Ruby... You do know that it's ok if you're not ok, right?"
Another moment of silence falls between them and Ruby's internal battle finally reaches its conclusion. Her eyes are instantly filled with tears, they stream down her face as she falls forward, desperate for the safety of her friend's arms.
Ruby wraps her arms around (Y/N)'s waist, burning her head into her chest. (Y/N) is quick to reciprocate the action, tightly holding Ruby, cradling her head as she cries. No sounds are heard except for the broken sobs of the young Rose. Ruby clings to the taller girl, scared that she would disappear if she let go, scared that she would lose someone else.
(Y/N) simply holds her, stroking her hair and whispering sweet nothings into her ear. (Y/N) can feel her heart break a little bit more with every tear of Ruby's that falls. (Y/N) knows that Ruby needs her and she's going to be there for her.
It feels like an eternity until Ruby's crying finally subsides. (Y/N)'s shirt has become damp with tears but she can't bring herself to care. Slowly, Ruby lets go, carelessly rubbing her now bloodshot, puffy eyes.
"I'm Sorry–"
"No. Don't apologise. Just don't."
"But–"
"No buts! You've borne the weight of everyone's expectations since our first day at Beacon. You've always been there to make the plan, to lead your team, to stay positive. You've always helped everyone. Let us help you."
"You're gonna make me cry again," Ruby jokes, wiping away another few tears. "Thank you for that though. It... it means a lot."
"Any time Ruby. Just know that your team is here, I'm here. And I'm not going anywhere."
Ruby doesn't say anything in return, simply leaning on (Y/N), resting her head on the taller girl's shoulder. (Y/N) pulls her closer, wrapping her arm around her shoulder. The two girls sit in silence, simply enjoying one another's company.
It doesn't take long for the peaceful silence to be disrupted by soft snoring. (Y/N) smiles softly at the sight. She stands up carefully, picking up the sleeping girl bridal style and carrying her back inside the house.
With a little luck, Ruby will sleep through the rest of the night and (Y/N) will make sure that Ruby gets all the love and support she could possibly need.

RWBY is genuinely one of my favourite shows of all time. I just love it so much!!!
The amount of times this season where this girl needed a hug are insane so I finally wrote a oneshot where she actually gets that love she deserves.
As usual I hope that you're all having a bloody amazing day/night/whatever time you're reading. You all better be getting enough sleep, drinking water and most of all staying positive.
That's all from me so I'll see ya later mates 😁❤️🤍🖤💛
