"Maria! Inigo said you fell off the roof and almost died! This is why we want someone to tame..."
"She didn't fall..." Bruno cut off Senor Montez in a surprising show of bravery.
"Of course she did. I'll bet she fell because you are her friend and are bad luck..." Inigo said. "It is simply too dangerous..."
Bruno pulled out the vision tablet. It showed hands pushing Maria towards the edge and Inigo waiting.
"I had a vision...and I think Inigo planned this to make him look heroic..." Bruno said.
Senor Montez yanked the vision tablet away.
Maria paused at that. "You had a vision about me?"
Bruno wasn't sure if she was mad at that, so he rushed to explain. "Your Mama asked for on..."
"What?!" Maria turned like a jaguar on her father.
"We simply figured we should take advantage of your continued insistence on being friends with this...curse. Of course it was a bad vision though....I'm sure if he didn't have one..."
Bruno meeped, wanting to hide in his ruana.
"No!" Maria yelled, surprising him. "You do not get to twist this into making Bruno look bad! This makes you and Mama look bad! You don't ask for a vision about me! Especially without telling me! If Bruno didn't have the vision then Inigo and his cronies would have killed me!"
"I would not have!" Inigo yelled.
"Yes you would have!" Maria shoved him. "You can't pick me up!"
"I'm honestly surprised Bruno could." Bruno heard Julieta whisper.
"I had Julieta's food on me!"
"So you were planning on coming across an injured person!"
"Maria, none of this would have happened if you had just listened to your parents and not climbed on the roof in the first place."
"None of this would have happened..." Maria parroted back. "If my parents would stop trying to find someone that will tame me!"
Bruno found Maria both scary and somehow really beautiful in this moment.
he pulled his hood down tighter.
Maria turned on her heels and took off running.
"I expect you home by nightfall young lady!" Senor Montez's booming voice called after her.
Then he turned to Bruno. "El Chico Maldito!" He hissed, throwing the vision tablet down at his feet.
People began to disperse. A hand was on Bruno's shoulder and he jumped.
It was Mama. "You did good with that vision mijo. Inigo should not be courting Maria if he would stoop to that level."
Even if it made people mad? He kind of liked having that confirmation.
Mama's voice got a sad tone to it as she looked the direction that Maria ran.
"For her sake though, I hope someone can tame her. She'll be a lot happier once she stops fighting."
That word again! Bruno picked up the shards of the vision tablet, only to be face to face with Pepa and Julieta.
"Go find your friend. We'll clean up here." Pepa said, cloud and a wind coming up.
"But...you guys are her friends to."
"She's more your friend than ours. I bet you know where she went." Pepa sing songed.
