Robin and Regina were in the kitchen looking at a picture hanging on the refrigerator door with a magnet. Regina stood with her hands resting softly on her small baby bump. Robin was behind her, his arms wrapped around her waist covering her hands with his. She was three months along, and the couple couldn't have been happier, staring at the sonogram of their baby. Regina leaned her head back on Robin's shoulder. She closed her eyes and sighed in happy content, a soft smile gracing her lips.
"What are you thinking?" Robin asked, kissing her cheek.
"Mmm...," she hummed. "Just about how excited I am for this baby to come."
"Me too," Robin grinned.
Robin leaned down and hooked his arm under her knees, wrapping the other around her back. Regina yelped in surprise and wrapped her arms around his neck.
"What are you doing?!" She exclaimed, a giggle escaping her lips.
"Carrying you to the living room," he replied simply.
She rolled her eyes and leaned her head on his shoulder. He walked into the living room and over to the couch. He set her down gently, then sat down beside her. She snuggled into his side, and he wrapped his arm around her. She had one hand softly rubbing her belly, and Robin covered it with his. He kissed her atop the head and she closed her eyes, sighing.
"Hey, I need to go get something. I'll be right back, okay?" Robin said, standing up. Regina nodded and sat in silence awaiting his return. Thoughts of their baby ran through her mind. They didn't know the gender yet, so they hadn't picked out names. Hell, they hadn't even talked about names. But Regina had ideas. For a girl, she liked the names Raelynn, Hope, and April. But if she had a boy, she would name him Jonathan, Ryan, or Sean. She didn't know what Robin had in mind, or if he'd like any of the same names she did. She decided she would ask him when he came back.
She heard rustling in the other room and wondered what in the world he was doing. A few seconds later, he walked out of the office with a small, velvet, royal blue box in his hand. He sat down beside her and wrapped his arm around her shoulders, handing her the box.
"For you, my love," he said sweetly.
Regina lifted the lid of the box, and tears immediately filled her eyes. In the box lay a gold necklace. It had an arrow as a part of the chain, a heart hanging from the shaft of the arrow. She brought a hand to cover her mouth, one tear spilling over.
"Oh, Robin... It-it's beautiful," she gasped.
"So you can always have a piece of me with you," he said.
She smiled and kissed him, tears clouding her vision. He took the necklace out of its box. Regina lifter her hair off of her neck and Robin clasped it shut behind her neck. The arrow and its heart lay on her chest, just above her own heart.
Suddenly there was a flash of light. Dark blue smoke filled the room. When it cleared, the Dark One was standing in the center of their living room.
"Emma," Regina said. "Wh-What are you doing here?"
Emma said nothing. Her eyes were narrowed, an evil grin on her face. She stepped forward and grabbed Robin by the collar of his shirt, pulling him to a standing position.
"Emma, what are you doing?" Robin asked cautiously.
Emma laughed, and it was a dark and utterly evil chuckle.
"You should have known this moment would come, Regina. You should have known your happiness wouldn't last. But, it is such a pleasure to see the look of shock on your face," Emma said, walking in a circle around Robin, never taking her eyes off of him.
"What are you talking about?" He asked nervously.
"Emma, don't. Whatever you're about to do, don't do it. It's not worth it," Regina warned.
"Oh, but it is," Emma said, finally shifting her eyes to look at Regina. She grinned.
Emma thrust her hand into Robin's chest. He cried out in pain, his knees buckling. Regina jumped up and came to his side, her heart beating out of her chest with fear and adrenaline.
Emma pulled her hand out of Robin's chest, clutching his heart. It was bright red and beating extremely fast. Robin's eyes went wide as he struggled for breath. Regina looked to Emma.
"Please, Emma! Please, don't! Don't kill him! Don't let the darkness consume you!" she begged.
Emma cocked her head.
"Don't let the darkness consume me? But, Regina, it already has."
Emma tightened her grip on Robin's heart ever so slightly, causing him to drop to his knees and clutch at his chest.
"Emma, please! Why are you doing this?" Regina cried.
"To take away every last piece of happiness you have. You're a villain, Regina. Villains don't get happy endings. You don't deserve to be happy. You deserve pain and suffering, you deserve to die alone! So I am taking this last thing that makes you happy, the thing you love the most, and I am going to crush it right in front of you. I want you to watch the light leave his eyes, feel the heat leave his body. I want you to be left with nothing," Emma said, squeezing his heart. She didn't loosen her grip any. She squeezed and squeezed, until all that was left of the heart in her hand was dust.
Robin collapsed, lifeless. Regina fell to her knees next to him, taking his face in her hands. His eyes were empty. The usual smile and warmth behind them was gone. His hands were already beginning to lose their heat.
"No...," Regina whispered. "No, no, no, no, no..." She looked up to see Emma still standing, a sick grin spreading across her face. She laughed, then disappeared in a cloud of dark blue smoke.
Regina looked back to Robin. He was gone. The love of her life... Was gone. She was going to have to raise their baby alone. Tears filled her eyes and spilled over, running down her cheeks. Sobs racked her body. She buried her face in his chest. The pain in her heart was overwhelming. It felt like someone had sliced a knife straight through her entire being. She cried until she ran out of tears.
Robin's eyes were still open. Regina reached up with shaking hands and closed them, so it looked like he was only sleeping...
