AUTHOR'S POV

It was after-school practice, and the boys had finished their warm-up. They waited for the coach's instructions on the new regiment only for him to hobble about. He had forgotten his notebook at home.

"I suppose I'll present it next session," he sighed. "For now, we'll start with our standard drills. Kita, organize the boys appropriately."

"Hai."

The coach crossed his arms, slightly flustered at his change of plans. But it would all work out in the end. Someone called his phone, and to everyone's surprise, he answered. The boys thought nothing of it and resumed their drills.

"If you could, I would greatly appreciate it," they heard him say. "Thank you."

The sombre expression on his face lightened, and Kita wondered if his coach was ill.

"Don't space out too long," Aran said, nudging his shoulder.

"I apologize."

As she returned her phone to her pocket, F/n strolled down the halls toward the gym, twirling a book. She smelt sweat past the gymnasium doors and pushed them open, waving at the coach from the side.

"Coach Kurosu, your favourite brat is here," she said, grinning from eye to eye. He sighed but thanked her regardless for her favour.

"Will you be staying the weekend?"

"I still haven't decided," she replied, roughing her hair. She caught a boy with blond hair intensely staring at her.

"You need something?"

"Your number," he replied, smirking. F/n furrowed her brow and crossed her arms.

"No, thank you. I'm not looking for a case."

"You can't be that much older than me–"

"But I am, kid," she told him. She surveyed each boy and stopped on the one glaring at the back of the blond's head.

"You the captain?"

Kita broke his stare and nodded. She beckoned him forward and examined him once he stood at arm's length of her. She smirked, glancing at the coach.

"You got yourself a good player, Dad. Congrats."

"Dad?"

She placed a finger on her lips and winked at the confused boy. Kita was beginning to piece things together when the gym doors slammed closed. He thought it was the end of that and never thought of her again. To his surprise, she showed up a few days later.

"Don't mind me," she told them, waving from the bleachers. He acted the same as always, unbothered that she was watching them, but apparently, the twins decided it was the perfect time to start a competition. But it was over as quickly as it began once Kita looked their way with ice in his eyes.
