After we left the cafeteria, Makoto and Sasayuri headed for the general store, saying they needed to get something there.

Maybe in the course of their visits back and forth to each other, they had found something that they lacked, or wanted?

I felt as though I had caught a glimpse of the development of their love, and agony trickled into my heart, spreading out like ink.

"Don't tell me you're regretting it now?" Ei fixed me with a chilly stare.

"Of course not... I'm glad things are going so well for them." I protested.

"The lack of color in your face says otherwise."

I tore my eyes away from the two of them and looked Ei in the face.

"What the hell was that, just now?" She asked.

Was this a reaction to Makoto, or was it about how I had called her my girlfriend?

"Pitiful. Just pitiful."

Ei heaved a sigh and shook her head.

"Come with me."

Without waiting for my reply, Ei started walking.

I followed without a word, and we arrived at the apartment where Ei and Makoto lived.

"Come in."

"Thanks..."

I had been in Makoto's room before, but this was my first time in Ei's room.

"Looks like... There aren't any pajamas or anything lying around.

I muttered to myself, remembering what had happened in Makoto's room before.

"Have you mistaken my room with a certain someone else's?"

Ei responded to my muttering in a flash. She must have heard about it from Makoto.

After inviting me to sit down, Ei made some tea.

"You said you came from the future?"

Ei asked this mildly, as though she were simply going along with a child's story.

It would have freaked me out if I were taken too seriously, so this temperature was just right.

"I did. That's how I know what an ordeal it is to wake up Makoto."

I answered lightly, meeting the temperature Ei had set.

"Ah, yes."

Ei made a sour face that was very easy to understand.

Since she lived with Makoto, her struggle must have been pretty serious.

"Well, we can talk next time about how bad she is at waking up."

"If we start in on that now, we won't be able to talk about anything else."

Ei corrected her posture and looked at me straight on.

"You were married with Makoto in the future, right? I don't know why you divorced, but if you've been given the chance to do your life over starting college, wouldn't it be enough just to try to keep the divorce from happening?"
