Blood Doesn't Mean Family

Start from the beginning

"Enough talking, I clearly can't communicate with you." Your mother pulled your cell phone out of her purse, grabbed your hand to unlock the fingerprint lock, then pulled up your contact list. " 'Goro <3' ? Good god, you're unfixable. Stupid girl, getting manipulated by the first boy who gives you attention." She called his number, then put the phone on speaker.

"Yes, my kitten? Is something wrong?"

You tensed. "Goro!" You tried to get up.

Your mother kicked you in the ribs. "Oh, hello Akechi-kun. This is Y/N's mother."

You cried out in pain and fell on all fours onto the floor.

"What?" Akechi demanded. "Why do you have her phone?!"

"Goro…my mother has me…hostage!" You shouted.

"Shut up, worthless whore!" Your mother kicked you again, and you cried out.

"Akechi-kun, what's going on?" You heard Ren's voice over the phone.

"Is someone else there?!" Your mother yelled.

"Don't worry about it," Akechi growled. "What the fuck do you want?"

"Money. If I just wanted my daughter I wouldn't have to call you." Your mother looked impatient. "You won't lay a hand on either of us, you'll give us a hundred million yen, and you will get her back."

The phone on the other line was silent. Finally, Akechi spoke again. "And what? You'll kill her if I don't? If you kill her we already know that you're the murderer. I've seen worse crimes prosecuted with less evidence. You know how our legal system works."

Your mother smiled wickedly. "Oh, no. We're just going to torture her until you do."

You blinked in shock.

"You're bluffing, you don't have the stomach for that." You could tell this had struck a nerve with Akechi.

"We don't, but the yakuza we hired do."

"No…wait…" You started to plead. "Mom don't I'll make sure he–"

Your mother grabbed you by the hair and threw you down onto the floor. You yelped in pain, this time the phone close enough to you for Akechi to hear it.

"Goro…I don't want to be here anymo–ah!"

Your mother hit you again.

There was a bit of silence, then a familiar laugh could be heard through the phone. Your blood ran cold. You looked up, blood dripping from a cut on your forehead, making it difficult to see. Your mother was taken aback by the laughter. Mixed emotions swirled inside you. You did try to warn her, after all.

"That's hilarious! " Just by the tone of voice you knew Akechi had snapped. "You think you're going to get out of this alive? Aha…haha…ahahaha!"

Your mother looked confused then glanced at you with a questioning look, her eyebrow raised.

Akechi sighed. "I'm sorry, my kitten. It looks like I'll have to break that promise to you."

He hung up.

To your surprise, your mother held out her hand for you. She gently helped you up and back onto the couch. "Sorry for the theatrics, I had to make it seem real."

"You're not actually going to torture me, are you?" You winced.

"Oh, god no," said your mother. "Those bruises should heal though. Oh…that forehead is bleeding. Here, I'll get a first aid kit."

You felt overwhelmed. Your mother had just beaten you, and now she's offering some kind of care? This wasn't funny. You knew what getting beat up for fun was like, and that really wasn't it.
