Chapter 4: A Growing Connection
The line between reality and the dream world began to blur for YN as the days passed. She went through the motions at school and home, her mind always half-occupied with thoughts of Hoseok. The harshness of her daily life seemed distant, like a nightmare she couldn't quite wake from, while the time she spent in her dreams with Hoseok became her true reality.
In the dream world, things felt different now. There was an unspoken tension between them, a fear that YN could sense beneath Hoseok's calm exterior. But more than that, there was a growing connection to something deeper and more profound that neither of them could ignore.
A Tender Reunion
That night, YN found herself in the dream world again, standing on the edge of a serene lake. The water was still, reflecting the soft light of the moon above. She knew he would find her here he always did.
She didn’t have to wait long. Hoseok appeared from the mist, his presence sending a wave of warmth through her. His expression was softer this time, his eyes filled with an emotion she hadn’t seen before something more than concern, more than friendship.
“YN,” he greeted her gently, his voice soothing as always.
“Hoseok,” she replied, her heart racing at the sight of him. She stepped closer, unable to resist the pull she felt toward him. “I missed you.”
His eyes softened even further, and a small smile curved his lips. “I’ve missed you too.”
For a moment, they simply stood there, looking at each other, as if words were unnecessary. The connection between them was palpable, a silent understanding that neither of them could explain.
Finally, Hoseok reached out, taking her hand in his. His touch sent a shiver down her spine, but it wasn’t the fear she’d felt before it was something warm, something comforting, something she wanted to hold on to.
“You’re risking too much, YN,” he said quietly, but there was no reprimand in his tone, only concern. “I don’t want you to get hurt.”
“I’m already hurt,” she confessed, her voice trembling with emotion. “Every day, I feel like I’m drowning, and you’re the only one who makes it better. You’re the only one who makes me feel alive.”
His grip on her hand tightened slightly, his gaze intense as he searched her face. “I don’t want you to feel like this, YN. I want you to be happy, to live your life without pain.”
“I can’t,” she whispered, tears welling up in her eyes. “Not without you.”
Hoseok pulled her closer, wrapping his arms around her in a protective embrace. “You don’t have to be alone, YN. I’m here for you, always.”
She buried her face in his chest, letting the warmth of his embrace envelop her. For the first time in as long as she could remember, she felt safe. She felt loved.
The Kiss
Time seemed to stand still as they held each other by the lake, the world around them fading into the background. YN could feel Hoseok’s heartbeat against her cheek, steady and strong, grounding her in this dreamlike reality.
When she finally pulled back, her gaze met his, and for a moment, they simply stared at each other, the air thick with unspoken emotions. YN’s heart pounded in her chest, her breath hitching as she noticed the way Hoseok’s eyes darkened with something new, something more intense.
Without thinking, she leaned in, her eyes fluttering shut as she pressed her lips to his. The kiss was soft at first, tentative, as if they were both afraid to break the fragile connection between them. But as the seconds passed, the kiss deepened, growing more passionate, more desperate.
Hoseok’s hands cupped her face, his fingers threading through her hair as he pulled her closer, as if he couldn’t get enough of her. YN’s heart soared, and for the first time in what felt like forever, she allowed herself to fully give in to the moment, to the feelings she had been suppressing.
When they finally broke apart, both of them were breathless, their foreheads resting against each other. YN could feel Hoseok’s warm breath on her skin, his presence more real than ever.
“YN,” he whispered, his voice rough with emotion. “You’re making this harder for both of us.”
“I’m sorry,” she whispered back, her voice barely audible. “I just… I needed to feel close to you.”
Hoseok pulled back slightly, his eyes filled with an emotion that made YN’s heart ache. “I understand,” he said softly. “But this isn’t real, YN. No matter how much we want it to be, this is just a dream.”
“I don’t care,” she replied, her voice trembling. “It feels real to me. You feel real to me.”
He sighed, his thumb gently brushing away a tear that had escaped down her cheek. “I wish things were different, YN. I wish I could be with you in the way you want me to be.”
YN felt a pang of sadness at his words, but she forced herself to smile. “This is enough for me, Hoseok. Just having you here, in my dreams, is enough.”
He didn’t respond, but the look in his eyes told her everything she needed to know. He cared about her deeply, but there was something holding him back, something he couldn’t tell her.
But at that moment, none of it mattered. All that mattered was that they were together, in this dream world, where nothing could hurt them.
Back to Reality
When YN woke up the next morning, she could still feel the ghost of Hoseok’s kiss on her lips, the warmth of his embrace lingering on her skin. For a moment, she lay there, her eyes closed, trying to hold on to the feeling for as long as possible.
But reality, as always, came crashing back in. The cold, harsh reality where she was alone, where the pain and loneliness threatened to consume her. She knew she was treading dangerous ground, that each time she returned to the dream world, it became harder to leave.
But the connection she felt with Hoseok was too strong to ignore. It was something she couldn’t find in the real world, something that made her feel alive, even if it was just a dream.
As YN got ready for another day of school, she couldn’t shake the feeling that things were changing, that the connection between her and Hoseok was growing stronger. But with that connection came new fears, new uncertainties.
She didn’t know what the future held, but one thing was clear: she couldn’t stop herself from going back to him, from seeking out the comfort and love that only he could provide.
Even if it meant risking everything.
