Reo could've asked about 'Fix me' here, but he would rather not fall into the trap. "What did my song say? At least in your opinion."

"That you've grown," Nagi's hand rested beside his thigh, brushing Reo's own on the same red bus seat. His pinky tried to tangle with Reo's, and his voice was soft with care as he said: "That you're stronger now."

It felt like a joke in bad taste.

The day before, he had treated Reo this exact same way. But he was drunk then, and his affection came from a confused mind rather than sincere feelings. He had treated Reo with fondness, which Reo only indulged in under the impression that they would forget about it today. He didn't have the time to entertain Nagi now, and Reo has never tolerated being laughed at.

He moved his hand away — It was for the best.

"I am," stronger, with much more will to resist. He was grown, and he knew better. Nagi didn't get to like this version of him as if he hadn't hated him until less than a week ago. "Why did you show me your song?" He asked, putting both hands on his lap to create space between them.

"I wanted to say something, too," Nagi began, talking about the meaning of his music. "I wanted to say something to you."

"Well, don't."

He only caught a glimpse of Nagi's reaction, surprise sinking into his usually untelling expression, and dissipating into the same calmness that seemed to be his default setting. He was always so put together he made Reo feel hysterical and fucking crazy.

But Reo didn't want to be rude. He could be serene, too, and they shouldn't fight on public transport. Reo sighed, "Seishiro, what are you trying to do?"

He couldn't guess his intentions, and it made him more uneasy. He couldn't play the game without knowing its rules first.

"I don't know," Nagi said. He was pulling at the seams of his pants, and that only confused Reo further since it meant they were both a little shy and nervous.

"No, you do know-"

"I want to talk to you, I guess." He looked at Reo's eyes, seeking understanding. It all came too fast for Reo to put his walls up. He was too busy seeing the specks of blue on Nagi's grey eyes.

"No," Nagi corrected himself before the other could answer. "I want to be in your life. I want to be more than a skating rival, or an acquaintance. I approached you with the song because I wanted you to know; how willing I am to try again and do it right this time."

"So what?" Reo's voice remained neutral. His mind was blank even as Nagi's words kept echoing inside him. Reo didn't know what to think or how to feel. Was this a curse or an opportunity?

He tried to sound more resolute – a curse, no doubt of it. "You want to be my friend now? Is that it?"

"Yes, would that be so weird...?"

It took him aback again, and Reo didn't know why he hadn't prepared for such honesty. Perhaps because said honesty was Nagi admitting Reo meant something to him, and Reo had already convinced himself he would always be a second thought for this man. At least where it mattered.

Nagi put an arm around the back of his seat, turning his whole body towards Reo. He was right there — tall, big, handsome, and impossible to dismiss. Reo thought for a second of pushing him to the ground and making a run for it.

"Look, Reo, I'm sure you're what I want. But honestly, I don't know where to start fixing this-"

Fixing what? Their so-called friendship? The unilateral bond that lasted years? "We could never be friends," Reo told him straight up.
