Matt, Kelly, and Sylvie take a trip, 51 is just as crazy as ever, Griffin Darden learns a lot, Nolan helicopters, and Greg is apparently chopped liver.

Enjoy "Counting Your Breaths" . . . and there's an important question at the end of the chapter I need as many people to answer as possible. It's crucial for the chapter after next!

"So what you're saying is Casey had kids you didn't know about."

"Matt does not have any kids," Sylvie rolled her eyes as she puttered around the master bedroom and gathered the clothes she would be taking to Chicago. "And I know of them, I just never met either of them. This is basically one of his godsons. It was Matt, Kelly, and Andy way before I showed up in Chicago." She paused in her actions. "Except Andy was very happily married and apparently tried setting them up before they even realized they liked each other."

Nolan's laughter erupted from where her phone, currently on speaker, sat on the bed. "I was making a joke, Sylvie, but thank you for that humorous image."

Sylvie sighed as she placed her belongings in her suitcase. "Andy's wife moved the family out of Chicago before I joined 51," she shared. "I never met any of them. I don't know what to expect from this, Nolan."

"It sounds a little similar to when they found you the first time in San Angelo," Nolan remarked. "Except they had no idea it was your firehouse they were working with. It'll be OK, Sylvie. Surely this kid would accept anyone Casey cares so much about."

Sylvie lowered her head and bit her lip. "I hope so."

"And hey," Nolan's voice lightened. "If you need an out, I can always fake a medical emergency or something to get you to fly here to New York."

Sylvie giggled in amusement. "You wouldn't."

"I would. I can even get Sam or Peter to vouch for me if you want it."

Sylvie snickered. "When am I going to meet this partner of yours?"

"Well, see, if I faked a medical emergency . . . "

She burst into laughter at his conversational tone. "Very funny, Nolan."

"If it cheers you up, I'll be as funny as you want."

"And I bet Jack would love that."

Nolan snickered. "Yeah, but it would be worth it to see Cosgrove's reaction."

"You're still not getting along with him?"

"It takes two for that, Sylvie, and I'm certain he's not even on the same book series as I am."

"Just give him the same charismatic charm you used with everyone in Chicago," Sylvie smiled teasingly. "Then he's all yours."

Nolan snorted. "Go fly to Chicago, Sylvie. Keep me updated on everything going on?"

Sylvie laughed as she zipped her suitcase. "Copy that."

In the fire academy, Jason Pelham had learned many valuable lessons. He learned there was never too high a limit to reach when you wanted to train. While he had set his bar to meet squad certification and didn't go higher than that, he was always up for a crash course for basic medical. There had been enough times at a restaurant or out in a park where basic first aid meant the difference in a person's health.
