Lance's home and the spot that Nadia and her siblings spent a lot of their time at was filled with family and friends dressed in all black, chatting and laughing while remembering his life.
The funeral was earlier that afternoon and the church was filled with nothing but tears. Stephen broke down at the realization that his father was gone and cried repeatedly until their wasn't anything left to come out anymore.
His mother left when he was younger leaving Stephen with his father to raise him alone as a solo teenager until he remarried to his stepmother in his thirties. So you can just imagine the pain he's feeling right now.
Chris even found himself shedding a few tears behind his black shades he wore trying not to be sad too much and still be there for Nadia. The two was inseparable since she showed up at his house. He made it his mission to make sure her mind was on everything but the funeral until the day of, today, just to make sure she stayed with a smile on her face.
The repast had ended an hour ago so this was the next spot everyone decided to reside and lighten the mood of the gloomy day.
Stephen was seated alone in his father's backyard in the beach chair his dad used to sit in and smoke his cigars in. Chris walked over to him trying to avoid getting mud on his dress shoes from the rain that was coming and going all day.
"What they say about rain on funerals? Ain't that a good thing or something?" He asked once he approached Stephen handing him a beer in the process and taking the seat next to him.
"I think your thinking about weddings," He answered and Chris made a face before letting out a simple "Oh," and taking a sip of his beer that automatically made him cringe since he didn't drink it as much. He figured that was a true grown man drink he wasn't prepared for. "How's she holding up?" Stephen asked him referring to his daughter that Chris was too in love with.
"She's good. Her and Demetrius in there arguing about who gets to keep the home videos Lance made from your wedding and shit."
"Make sure she gets it. Lord know what that boy would do with it." Chris chuckled and shook his head.
"I would've thought you wanted it."
"Nah, I'm cool without it. Why would I be reminded of a night I thought was the best night of my- our life and it turns out it was only good for one of us?"
"Don't say that. I'm sure she enjoyed it as well. Every woman loves their wedding day, right? It's a big moment of her life, she got four good kids out of it,"
"She cheated in it, Chris." Stephen spoke shutting Chris up who didn't really know how to respond. "Two weeks before our wedding, I sat her down and asked her was she sure this was something she wanted to go through. Did she want to be committed to just me and only me for the rest of our lives till death due us part and start that big family with me? She said yes...and then turned around ten years later and cheated and had another man's baby while I sat and thought all these years she was mine,"
"She is yours. Destiny adores you as if she came from you. She loves you because your her father and that shit not gone change." Chris reassured him and turned his head seeing Natalia make her way to them.
