Greendale community college. A shitshow of high school dropouts and middle aged people with enough free time to sign up for a class called intro to tree climbing.
"Hey, Y/n!"
Annie Edison, my best friend since high school. Technically my only friend in high school after she pulled me through a glass door at some party. We'd lost touch for a while when she went to rehab, but we'd reconnected during an accepted student's day.
"Sup Annie E." I replied, slinging my arm around her shoulders.
"Some guy from our Spanish class invited me to join a study group. I think his name's Abed. Wanna come?"
""Well, you know how bad I am at Spanish. Sure."
Annie squealed, jumping up and down. "Great! Because I'm on my way now, and I'm too scared to go alone."
The two of us walked to the library, with Annie chattering about studying tips. I half listened as we walked into one of the study rooms. And almost took Annie's head off when she stopped walking.
"Girl, you good?" I asked, turning to her. She looked pale, like she'd seen a ghost. I glanced over at the table and suddenly understood why. Troy Barnes. The most popular guy in Greendale high. Annie had a huge crush on him back then. I had no opinion of the guy. He seemed chill enough, and hadn't been one of the ones to try bullying me after Annies adderall incident.
I turned back to Annie. "Lets just sit down. Okay?"
She nodded, so I led her over to the table. I was about to sit when a deadpan voice interrupted.
"Sorry, Jeff and Britta were sitting there."
I looked over to see a very pretty boy with wavy dark brown hair. He had wide eyes that seemed to almost stare into your soul.
"Uh, okay. Then what seats are free?"
He pointed to two seats on the corner of the table, one next to where I was about to sit. Annie took the other seat quickly, so I moved over.
"Hi Abed. Thanks for inviting me." Annie said to the boy. So his name was Abed. for some reason it fit him. He gave a quick nod to her when two people walked into the room, sitting down in the two empty seats.
"All right then. Who's ready to study all night?" The guy asked. He had a weird smirk on his face that I didn't entirely trust.
"Uh, I can go until 10." The woman sitting next to Annie answered, clutching her purse.
"But who studies with strangers, right?" the guy said, ignoring her. "My name is Jeff."
"Jeff, it's a pleasure. My name is Pierce Hawthorne and yes, that is Hawthorne as in Hawthorne Wipes, the award winning moist towelette." The older man said, an air of narcissism to his words.
"I was just going to ask." Jeff responded, sarcastically.
"I'm also a Rotarian and no stranger to public speaking, so maybe I should make the introductions." Peirce said, ignoring Jeff's sarcasm. Or maybe he just didn't notice. He didn't really seem like the sharpest tool in the shed.
"You already know Britter. Brittles?"
"Britta." The blonde who had come in with Jeff corrected.
"My apologies Britta." He said, half ignoring her. "You also know A-bed, Abed the Arab." He looked over at Abed, whose expression hadn't changed. "Is that inappropriate?"
