My heart sunk into my chest. It was beating so fast, I felt enough adrenaline to race a cheetah. I held my breath, listening to the silence of another room through a microphone.

"Jack..? What did it say?"

His voice, so velvet and soft, soothed me quietly while tears of pure panic ran down my cheeks.

"She's being kidnapped, Mark."

There was an audible gasp, and then a hitch in Mark's breath.

"I-I'm so sorry, Jack, but maybe you shouldn't get involved."

"I shouldn't get involved..? Really, Mark!? This is the love of my fucking life in danger and you want me to 'not get involved'!? How good of a friend are you!?" I screamed, my tone becoming more and more booming by the word. I heard a stifle of a whimper, then I realized just how harsh I had sounded.

My Irish temper had gotten the best of me, and I could almost hear my best friend's tears and his confusion as my, usually playful stature, seemed to just snap.

Without another word being spoken, the Skype call ended. I frowned.

'No! No, no, no! Mark, I need your help!' I thought, groaning and whining as my eyebrows unfurrowed. 'You're such an idiot, Sean.'

I mentally agreed with myself, pushing my Laptop off the couch and not even caring that it fell straight on the ground, probably breaking. I read the text message that struck my heart over and over, trying to believe that all this was some kind of joke.

But I knew that wouldn't last long, and I needed to help as soon as possible.

Mustering up all of my wits, I texted her back with,

'Where are you? I'm coming, baby, don't worry!'

I placed my phone down on the table, running to another room to pack a small backpack. I put in a few items, then I heard the sound of my phone getting a notification. I left the back sitting on my bed, running back to my phone to read the text.

'This guy has me on a plane, he slipped some guy some money and has a gun in his bag Sean I'm so scared.'

My breathing hitched.

'Plane? To where? Do you know?'

There was a short pause, but it felt like the longest pause of my life.

'Yes L.A. in California.'

'America!?' I texted back, almost immediately. 'Alright. Hold tight, Joey, I'll be there soon. :)'

After waiting around with no reply I ran back to my room, stuffing the large backpack with clothes, items of personal hygiene and otherwise. When I was finished, I put my wallet in my pocket, along with my phone, and ran outside, locking the door.

Luckily for me, I knew a guy who had a taxi parked around the corner, and he'd be more than willing to give me a lift.
