"I don't know what happened, it just stopped working," Sinclair spoke to the maintenance man as he worked on her broken ac that's been blowing out hot air for almost two weeks.
It didn't help the fact, that the temperature had been in the high nineties for six days straight and the nights were extremely humid. She's been having to sleep in her underwear. She had never had any issues with her apartment other than the toilet getting clogged once in a blue moon. But since they've been having a hot summer, a lot of things had been affected in the building.
"The filter and battery needed a change, do you keep it running day and night?" he asked.
"Only at night, I use my fan during the day,"
"This bad boy is filthy," he held up the dusty filter.
Sinclair scrunched her nose up, "I keep everything in order here, I know that's not on me."
"Well this is what I get paid to do," he said before standing.
"Are you thirsty?" she decided to ask.
"I'm fine, I'll tend to this and then be on my way."
"Ok," she made her way toward her room until there was a knock at the door.
"Miss Nash!"
"I heard," she rushed to answer. "hiiii," she smiled, embracing Dante.
"Hey," he tightened his hold, "you good?"
"Yeah, my ac is still broken, finally decided to get some help," she nodded toward the maintenance guy.
"Was it tha' filter?" he whispered, already knowing.
"Mm-hmm," she stared at him before letting him in. "Do you have a lot of homework?" she asked, following him into her room.
"I do," he groaned, "but I worked on some in between classes."
Nodding, Sinclair sat criss-cross beside him and powered on her laptop.
"Cool if I get comfortable?"
"It's fine," she waved it off.
Removing his sweatshirt, Dante grabbed his jogging shorts from his Nike bag and headed into her bathroom to change before rejoining her.
Laying on her stomach, Sinclair leaned into Dante and smiled.
"Wassup?"
"You smell like heaven," she giggled.
"I did shower before I got here," he chuckled, "stop being strange, Sin."
"I'm just complimenting you," she tried not to blush before focusing on her homework.
"Ok Miss Nash, your ac is fixed! Give it about ten minutes to kick in!"
"Thanks!"
"I'll lock the door," Dante got up before she could.
Laying down, Sinclair moved her laptop to the side and stared at the screen but the longer she stared, the heavier her lids became. Trying to fight it but failing to, she went from reading the assigned chapter to the words watching her sleep. Dante returned but decided to work on his homework in the living room. That didn't go well for him when the ac finally kicked in and he ended up falling asleep.
"Dante?" Sinclair lazily called.
"Hmm?" He grumbled, eyes still closed.
"I brought a blanket for you."
"I'm good..." he finally opened his eyes, "oh damn... I fell asleep?"
Amused, Sinclair nodded as she climbed onto the sofa with him and covered them with the blanket.
