Katsuki was suddenly roused by a nurse in stark white scrubs. He blinked up at them bleary eyed and dazed.
"He's awake," they said in a soft, unemotional voice.
Katsuki snapped to attention, all drowsiness disappearing from his body instantaneously. Katsuki rose from his seat and began to follow the nurse to Izuku's room, even though he already knew the way like the back of his hand. His heart began to beat faster as he walked through the hall, brain buzzing with anticipation. Finally, he couldn't stand it any longer. He pushed past the nurse and accelerated into a full sprint. He reached the door and hesitated for a moment, his fingers lingering on the handle. Katsuki didn't know how things would be now between him and Izuku. Would things be weird now? Would Izuku even be able to look Katsuki in the eye? Then Katsuki realised he didn't care. He just wanted- needed to see Izuku. alive. conscious. He flung open the door.
Izuku sat up in his bed, staring out the window, swathed in the soft early morning light. At the sound of the door opening, Izuku turned his head, a look of surprise on his face. When Izuku realised that it was Katsuki, his face broke into a wide grin, his emerald eyes sparkling as they met Katsuki's. Katsuki felt a lump forming in his throat. He was alive. He was here.
"Hey kid," Izuku murmured.
Katsuki took a tentative step forward, his whole body trembling. Then he leaped the rest of the distance between them and enveloped Izuku in a hug.
"You stupid, stupid, brave, beautiful idiot!" Katsuki scolded through his tears.
"Kat...can't...breathe," Izuku gasped.
Katsuki loosened his grip on Izuku but kept his face buried in the greenette's chest. Katsuki's tears dripped onto Izuku's hospital gown.
"Hey, look at me," Izuku said.
Katsuki obliged, tilting his head up to meet Izuku's gaze.
"I'm okay."
Katsuki scanned Izuku's face, tears still dripping from his eyes.
"I don't know what I would do if I lost you." Katsuki sniffed.
"I'm right here Kat," Izuku said softly
"I don't know what to do with that either," Katsuki laughed, wiping the tears from his cheeks.
"I do." Izuku said softly, a confident smile spreading across his face.
Izuku tugged the front of Katsuki's shirt, pulling the blonde close, and kissed him. Katsuki gasped as the touch of Izuku's lips on his sent sparks shooting along his spine. Izuku pulled him closer. Izuku pulled Katsuki onto his lap so that the blonde was straddling his legs. Katsuki's hands found their way into Izuku's hair, the dark curly strands twisting around his fingers. Izuku's hands were firmly planted at Katsuki's waist, his thumbs gently caressing the skin just above the blonde's hips. It was perfect. It was everything Katsuki had ever wanted.
Except...
"Izuku," Katsuki said suddenly, pulling away.
"What's wrong?" The greenette asked, looking dazed.
"I have to tell you something." Katsuki's heart beat hard and fast in his chest, "when you were hurt, I... I thought I might never see you again and I just have to... I almost never got to tell you and I-" Katsuki's words were rushed.
"Hey, hey, slow down," Izuku said in a soothing tone, shifting slightly to look into Katsuki's eyes."You don't have to worry anymore. I'm here now and I don't plan on going anywhere. Whatever it is, it can wait." Izuku reached up to cup Katsuki's face, their foreheads pressing together. "Just be here with me for now, okay?" He said softly.
"Of course, Anything you want," Katsuki replied.
"I want you to kiss me again," Izuku whispered.
And so Katsuki did.
Again
And again
And again....
