Katsuki sprinted without any sense of direction, his only thought the frantic beating of his heart. There were many reasons for this, that he was running first of all, that there were villains and a huge battle mere streets away, but mostly, it was the fact that he had just kissed his supposedly unrequited love of his life that, until approximately ten minutes ago, had seemed impossibly unattainable. But then Izuku had hissed him backHE'D KISSED HIM BACK
And then Katsuki had immediately ran away and sent said love of his life, the man he had been in love with since childhood, away into the heat of a extremely dangerous and deadly battle.
Katsuki already regretted it. He had regretted it the moment he could no longer feel Izuku's lips on his own, his hands on him.
But Katsuki Bakugo had never been great at making good decisions anyways;-;
Katsuki came back to himself as he heard the sounds of a crowd gathering not far away. He emerged into a square full of people staring up at a giant screen projecting the footage of the battle.
He stumbled, legs shaking from the running, glancing up at the carnage on screen. The battlefield was all rubble and pikes of twisted metal sticking up into the air like deadly tentacles.
Katsuki saw a flash of green and his breath caught. He tried to shift into the crowd to get a better look when-
"BAKUGO" shouted a chorus of voices.
Katsuki whirled around and was immediately barrelled into by something burly and red and the two fell to the ground
Kirishima crushed Katsuki in a breath stealing hug and was quikcly joined by Mina.
Katsuki just sat there in wide eyed, heavy breathed, surprise. The two embracing him had tears in their eyes and flowing freely down their faces.
There were others there too, and the looked on at the scene with relieved and grateful looks on their faces.
Katsuki brought his hands up, tentatively returning the embrace.
It was nice. After the week of being berated and torn down this physical proof that someone- these people he called his friends- really cared, was reassuring. At least, until it got uncomfortable that was.
"Alright that's enough of that," Katsuki wheezed, patting gently at the arms around him as they squeezed increasingly tighter, cutting off his oxygen.
"Sorry man, we're just- I mean we're all just so glad- your here and not there and I just-" Kirishima stumbled over his words, seemingly wanting to say a thousand things and not being able to form a single complete sentence.
"I know," Katsuki said, giving a small reassuring smile to the redhead as he stood and extended a hand to help the other boy up.
"We're all glad that you have returned to us Bakugo," Iida sais from the group of others- Todoroki, Uraraka and Momo
Katsuki felt oddly touched, the walls he usually kept up around his heart worn away from all the excruciating weeks under Ku's sharp words and then suddenly the shocking and magnificent kiss with Izuku.
Suddenly the crowd around them burst out into a frenetic cacophony, and Katsuki whipped around to look at the huge screen that dominated most of the square on one side. It took him a moment to process what he was seeing. The scene had switched from the ultimate showdown of All for one and AllMight and had focused on to blurs of colour and motion, one jade green and glowing, the other deadly pink and red, glinting dangerously as quirks flew across a wrecked battlefield. Izuku had made it back to the battle, and he was engaged with Ku in an earth quaking row.
The camera became more focused and the faces of the opposants came into view. Both hero and villain had vicious snarls contorting their features and Katsuki could hardly fathom how those same curling lips had pressed so gently to his not half an hour ago.
Attack after attack volleyed between the battling men, each strike more powerful than the last. Katsuki forgot most of the time just how powerful Izuku really was, after his intensive years of training at UA and his short but notable time as a pro. It was really quite a special to watch. Huge, rippling waves of power could practically be seen wafting off Izuku and Katsuki had the thought that if the buildings around him hadn't already been flattened, Izuku would have turned them to dust. Katsuki was reminded that the power to cause that amount of collateral damage resided within Izuku, bubbling just under the surface and ready for Izuku to use as he wished, provided that his body and spirits stayed strong enough to hold it. Is was impressive, but also terrifying.
There was a shift in the battle and Izuku and Ku suddenly launched at each-other. Before the collision, the scene suddenly switched back to the fight between AllMight and All for One. Katsuki yelled in frustration as he stood frozen and helpless in the crush of people.
A wave of shock ran through the crowd at the revelation of AllMight's weakened state. They watched, stunned as their symbol of peace prepared for his final attack.
The great hero flew at his arch nemeses and delivered the final, bone shattering blow that would end this battle, once and for all. The shrivelled remains of the symbol of peace pointed to the cameras and somewhere in the world a young Mirio Togeta eyes flooded with tears, knowing it was now up to him to carry the legacy and quirk of the finest hero the world had ever seen.
The breath of the entire world was healed for a moment before it began to sink in on itself and devolved into chaos. The square erupted in cries of sorrow, but Katsuki still stood motionless, a solitary tear trickling down his face. His breath refused to start.
'Izuku,' he thought 'where is Izuku?'
The camera suddenly flashed back to the place where Izuku and Ku had been battling but the scene was still. There was no fighting, no explosions of flying rocks. All that was visible other than the pulverized neighborhood was the limp figure of a pink haired person, blood stains their cloths and peppering the rock where they lay motionless.
Katsuki scanned the scenery desperately, searching.
He found what he had been looking for a moment later. A shock of green hair, a scarred hand. Blood dripping from fingertips.
"No," is was barely a breath, but the word escaped Katsuki, punching its way trough his lungs and ghosting past his lips.
Izuku lay unmoving. The camera switched. Showing a slight more detailed angle to the tragic sight. Katsuki waited for Izuku to rise, to twitch, to give even the smallest indication that he was still...that he wasn't...
'Come on, get up,' Katsuki thought frantically, his heart stopped and his breath caught in his rib cage.
'Oh god please you have to get up'
But the body of Izuku remained motionless and Katsuki's lungs screamed along with his mind, begging for Izuku to get up and be alright so that he could breathe again.
Tears began to sting the back of Katsuki's eyes and suddenly the pressure of his lungs and the buzzing in his head became all too much and he gasped, letting the world come rushing back in. Though his lungs had begged for air only moments ago, now everything was all too much, but he couldn't stop. Great heaved wracked Katsuki's body until he was sobbing in a heap on the cold stone of the square.Katsuki felt the vague sensation of what was surely meant to be a comforting hand on his back but he hardly noticed, his attention snapping instead to the screen once again. Now there were paramedics on the scene. They moved Izuku's ever limp body onto a stretcher and carted him into an ambulance.
Katsuki hardly had a thought after that.
He just ran.
