The sun was shining down on the cracked pavement of the park as Alexandra Quinn stepped onto the River Court. She caught the leather basketball as it bounced off the rim, "Come on now, Luke, you getting rusty in your old age?"

She bounced the ball between her legs before jumping back as she sunk a shot, the clanging of the chain basket making her grin wide. The boys started hollering for her as Lucas Scott shook his head, returning her smile, "Good to see you cocky as ever, Alex."

The girl shrugged at him as she greeted Skills before joining Mouth, Jimmy, and Fergie at the picnic table, "Hey boys,"

Fergie scooted over eagerly as she took a seat beside him, leering at her the way he always did which made her laugh, "Staring is creepy, bro."

Jim reached over to smack him on the back of the head as Junk called out, "You guys remember Tom Dugan from grade school?"

"Who?" Alex muttered as Lucas replied, "Oh yeah, he used to live next door to you right?"

"Yeah! Some guy snapped him with a wet towel, he lost one of his testicles."

"Something you guys share in common then?"
Alex jested, making the boys laugh.

Junk pouted, "Shut up, I'm just saying what I heard!"

Alex shook her head along with the rest as she turned back towards Mouth and Jimmy, "So, have you guys got the website up yet?"

The pair had been talking about starting their own announcement site for the school sports, but they hadn't gotten it running yet. The best friends eagerly started telling her some of the details but before she could ask anymore, loud music cut them off. The car was driving past as Jim announced, "Peyton Sawyer."

All of them watched as she drove past the park, Alex with curiosity unlike the rest. She knew of her, seen her around school and the games, but they had never spoken. It was strange how in this small town there were still people she had never spoken to before.

"You seen her Webcam? In her bedroom. I hear she's naked on it like all the time." Alex shot him a disapproving look as she stood up, "What? I hear things."

"Guys, don't be gross. I thought I taught you better." Alex stepped up beside Luke, smirking when she reached over to playfully tap his chin, "Easy, best friend, you're drooling."

He smacked her hand away childishly with the ball even as he smiled, "You know, I saw her the other night. She almost ran me over, of course."

Skills and Alex shared a knowing look before he looked back at Luke, "Yeah, she's pretty fine, huh?"

"Eh, she's alright."

All of them let out a collective scoff, making him shake his head, "Just shoot for teams, alright?"

"Hell nah." Skills said, pulling the girl towards him, "Alex is my girl for teams. We done been over this."

The pair did their handshake that they came up with years ago as Luke placed a hand over his chest, "What happened to best friends?"

"Sorry Luke," Alex grinned as she gestured to him to pass the ball, "At least I was nice to you before we kicked your ass."

The group played through the afternoon with Jim and Mouth practicing announcing the games. Luke's team won, obviously, but Alex kept up with the smack talk. He was good, really good. Sometimes she wished he would take his talent outside of the river court, but she understood probably better than most why he didn't.

Once evening rolled in and the boys started to head out, Lucas slung his arm over her shoulder, "Cafe?"

Alex snorted, "Obviously."
