It has been seven years since the pogues found El Dorado and sadly, JJ and Kie broke up after about three years of dating. They were perfect together and then JJ went into self-destruction mode and he ended up going back to his old ways. Except now that they had money, it was much worse.
He got with a bunch of random girls who were models, wasted his money on stupid shit, and spent most of his time gambling in Las Vegas. It took Kie almost two years to recover from that breakup. She really loved him.
Kiara went on to start her own 'save the turtles' foundation. She had the means to start a business and it became very successful. She has been traveling around for years now going to conferences and branching out into other countries. During her travels, she met a guy named Trevor. 
Trevor came from a family of wealth, one that makes Figure Eight look like the cut. His family adored Kiara and her parents also loved Trevor. Mike and Anna were so grateful that Kiara finally was with someone to their liking. For Kie, that meant going to fancy dinner parties and galas, and always being so formal and proper. She couldn't destroy Trevor's family image. They owned many national companies and were very well-known and well-liked.
Kiara and Trevor have been dating for almost two years now and the pogues were all very fond of him, except for JJ. Kiara made sure that Trevor didn't know JJ. She never spoke of him or their past relationship, to Trevor, JJ didn't even exist. Kiara figured it was best this way. 
Trevor took Kiara on a trip to Paris where he proposed to her and of course, she happily said yes. The wedding planning was in full force and it wasn't just some ordinary wedding. It was a multimillion-dollar event. Trevor and Kiara had just arrived back in the Outer Banks to spend a week with Mike and Anna to start talking about the guest list from Kiara's side of the family.
While in the Outer Banks, Kiara made plans to see her friends. She would be heading over to see John B and Sarah along with Pope and Cleo tonight. JJ rarely ever comes back to the Outer Banks, he lives in California now on the beach. He hated the Outer Banks as it reminded him too much of all the shit that happen. No one ever stopped seeing JJ for the boy he used to be in high school. 
Kiara rang the doorbell and when the door opened, she was frozen. There stood JJ Maybank. Her best friend. Her lover. Her everything. At least that's what he used to be to her.
"Kie" He whispered her name so softly, just like the night he had rescued her from the wilderness camp, Kitty Hawk
"J" She whispered back as she fell into his arms just as she had many times before
The two were interrupted when Trevor cleared his throat and spoke, "I'm Trevor, her fiance"
Kiara and JJ broke apart and JJ extended his arm to shake Trevor's hand simply introducing himself as JJ. Kiara was reunited with the rest of the pogues for their dinner party. It was obvious that JJ wasn't a fan of Trevor's. JJ didn't even recognize Kie anymore. Her sense of adventure was missing. He left right after dinner so he didn't do anything that he would regret. Well let's face it, JJ wouldn't regret anything but it would get him in a lot of trouble.
The next evening, Kiara and Trevor were at the Wreck eating dinner as Mike and Anna were working. Little did Kiara know that a certain blonde hair and blue-eyed boy was out on the patio enjoying a beer while he just happened to witness how well Trevor fit into the Carrera family. He watched as Mike and Trevor bonded, joked together, and shared many laughs. Anna was no different. Mike and Anna never accepted JJ as their daughter's boyfriend. It was part of the reason that put JJ into such a self-destruction phase. 
He slipped out before he was noticed. The last thing he wanted was to cause trouble for himself. He just wanted to get the hell out of the Outer banks. But he couldn't leave because he had nowhere else to go. So he found himself wandering back to the house he grew up at. Meanwhile, Kiara and Trevor went back to her childhood bedroom to watch a movie before going to sleep.
