"Ok, everybody," Knuckles said once we got to Metropolis, "Let's split up. Eggman's hiding in this city somewhere."
"Is it ok if I split up with Papi, Uncle Knuckles?" Asked Emily cutely.
"Of corse, rookie buns." Knuckles replied and pat my daughter on the head. "Everyone else, choose a partner. Metropolis is a big city and it'll be bad for everyone if one of us gets lost."
Spirit partnered with Knuckles, Rogue partnered with Omega, Vector partnered with Charmy and Silver partnered with Aria. When we were all partnered up, we all ran off in different directions.
Emily and I stopped and faced the doctor. At one side, Sonic floated by him. At the other side, Infinite floated by him. It made me angry seeing Sonic so miserable, but I couldn't give myself away like that.
"Welcome, Shadow!" Eggman greeted sarcastically. "I'm so glad you could make it, to your funeral. Infinite, Sonic, do it!"
"Take this." Said Infinite monotonously while an energy ball charged in his left hand.
"I'm sorry, Shadow!" Said Sonic sadly while an energy ball charged in his right hand.

"What is that?" I asked. I knew what it was, I just wanted the doctor to confirm it.
"That, my immortal former minion, is Null space."
Sonic's eyes widened. He was scared, really scared.
"Null space?" He asked in fear, "You're sending my family to Null space?!"
"That I am, Rodent." Eggman explained evilly. "I've seen the effects on you when you thought your precious future husband died. Replicating it will allow the Phantom Ruby to control your thoughts again, then Phantom Sonic is back, Baby!"
I was fighting against the pull of the vortex, but I count feel myself slipping. Then, I felt metal encircle my wrist and heard a grapple gun being shot behind me. When I looked back, Emily was holding me.
"No, Emily!" I shouted over the vortex, "You'll get sucked in too!!"
"I don't care!!!!" She shouted back, "I'm not being orphaned again!!!!!!!"
The cord snapped, and we tumbled into Null space together.
