26 September 2002

Josephine heaves a loud sigh as she unplugs the keys to her car, the once new and shiny transport looking like a piece of crap compared to the expensive, up to date, cars in her childhood area.

Closing the rusty door behind her, Jo begins to tiredly walk to her old home, smiling softly when she catches her little brother's face through the window.

She attempts to flatten out her creased scrubs as the door swings open in front of her, "Joey!"

A small body barrels into her, wrapping their small arms around her waist. Jo sighs contently as she rubs her little brother's back, having not seen him in a year.

"I missed you," came his excited voice, slightly quieter due to his face being pressed tightly against her stomach.

A soft laugh fell from Jo's lips, "Missed you too, bud."

A throat clearing caused the two to break apart, Josephine staring up at her younger sister with a wide smile. The teenager ran toward Jo, replacing Theo's small body, and wrapping her arms around her.

"God, it's been boring without you," complained her younger sister—Lisa.

Jo hummed, "Life's been pretty boring without you, too."

After separating, Jo wraps an arm around Lisa, holding her opposite arm out to Theo, ruffling his hair. As the trio walk inside, a delicious smell fills Josephine's nostrils.

"Is that what I think it is?" she questions, happily, smiling at her younger siblings.

"Sure is," came another voice—Jennifer, Jo's twin sister.

In her hands, was a plate of steaming lasagna, placed carefully on the table with the rest of the plates, cutlery already out.

Suddenly, Josephine's jet lag from her travels faded away, morphing into hungry delight as she rushed to the table of food.

The dinner was full of stories, her younger siblings questioning her on her job at the hospital and asking about the recent life she saved.

"You're so much cooler than Spider-Man," spoke Theo, awe taking over his features.

Jo scoffed out a laugh, "I'm a surgeon, that's not nearly as cool as a superhero."

"You save lives!" piped up Lisa, "What's the difference?"

"Yeah, Jo. What is the difference?" questioned Jennifer, with an amused smile on her face.

Jo snorted out a laugh, "Well, first of all, the years of medical training. You know how long and boring that was?"

"Yeah but it was worth it!" reminded Jennifer, "You're probably the most successful person this family has ever had."

Jo smiles but Jennifer can still see the emotion in her eyes, the sadness, they both understand it.

Their parents were a bunch of no-good idiots. Their mom a raging alcoholic and their dad a depressed deadbeat. None had jobs that lasted over a couple of weeks and they continuously left the twins alone. Only, when the girls turned sixteen did they finally manage to run away, paying for a house together and looking after their siblings, albeit, it was hard due to Jo attending medical school but they managed.
