tw: mentions of abuse

🌙

Donghyuck's mother slowly became abusive, a few months after she was diagnosed. With his little knowledge, he doesn't know whether this was caused by the fierce disease or not.

Bruises would be seen all throughout his body due to his mother's doings. It could be from a flower pot thrown at him when he couldn't cook the rice correctly. Or from his mother's fist when she refused to be cleaned after peeing in bed.

As young as an eighth year old, Donghyuck had to face situations he shouldn't have.

🌙

It's been a week since Donghyuck last visited Jeno. "Have you heard from Hyuck?" the older who was there only to check on him, like every other day, looks at him and offers him a shrug. "Come on! You must know something since...you know." Jeno teasingly raises an eyebrow and smirks.

Mark puts his charts back where it should be and says "Looks like my job here is done. You're obviously going back to your default self."

"Unfortunately," he adds.

"Donghyuck must've gotten sick of your attitude that he can't even afford to stick with you even if it's just for a good time." the patient spat back.

Once again, he shrugs and left the young man alone.

"Maybe that is it."

Jeno isn't the only one who hasn't seen the pretty boy for a week, so does Mark. After that night, he has been hesitant with meeting Donghyuck. Maybe it was what he said. Or maybe he got tired of Hyuck?

But that just can't be when he's been wanting to see the man. He'd lie down early in the morning – earlier than his usual schedule as a Doctor – he tries to think of why he didn't meet Donghyuck after that night. And how harder it would be to approach him as more days pass.

And every single time he's over the edge, Donghyuck's voice resonates like a siren's hypnotizing, toxic, lullaby.

"I think commitment is something that's not for me."

Is it pity? When did he get this serious about this not-such-a-stranger named Donghyuck? Why did this confession stop him from being friends with Donghyuck? What does this matter to him? It's not at all his business if a friend can't commit to anything because his sense of trust has been tainted multiple times. The universe had let him down this much, he couldn't even afford to have friends.

This made Mark's heart ache. He sheds a tear, clutching his chest, trying to calm down.

"Show yourself, Donghyuck. I just wanna know if you're okay."
