Longtae’s Pov.
I was walking through the forest. My dad sent me to pick up a sweater that he has left at one of his friend’s place. It was quite scary and dangerous to be out at night with bad people still on the loose.
I was jogging and jogging nonstop to go back home as soon as possible. I was a bit terrified when I heard that bad guys were still on the loose and were freely roaming around our precious village. Ever since then, I’ve been avoiding going out at night or if I do go out, I like to have some company.
Reaching near my house, I suddenly heard a fast shuffling of crunchy leaves and heavy breathing close around me. Out of pure panic, I began to dash faster than ever but bumped into someone in front of me. I couldn’t make out who it was at first. I viciously rubbed my eyes and blinked several times before I saw who it was. It was Tian. He was crying his eyes out and was breathing heavily, on the verge of passing out.
“Tian? What are you doing here?” I questioned, concerned for him.
“Chief doesn’t love me anymore. He doesn’t want the baby. He told me he doesn’t want to see me.” His lips quivered and out of nowhere, he threw himself into my arms. His muffled cries were heard clearly despite his face buried in my shoulder.
I let him cry for a while more. I hugged him tightly, rubbing his back in circles. What is he talking about? Is it true what he’s saying? If it’s true, then I hate Phupha. No one makes my dear friend cry.
After a while of soothing him down, his sobs turned into occasional hiccups. I slowly let him go and asked, “Okay, Tian! What are you talking about? What really happened?”
“Today, he went straight to school while I was teaching and made a huge scene, asking me why I had hid the pregnancy. Later that day, when he came back home injured. I tried explaining myself but he yelled at my face to leave. He clearly told me in my face that he doesn’t want to see me!” Tears were flooding from his eyes and his uneven sobs were audible once again.
It broke my heart to see my friend in so much pain. The situation between Phupha and Tian has gotten way out of hand in my opinion.
“What are you going to do then? Why don’t you come over at my place for tonight? It’s not safe for you to be out here.” I suggested.
“No thanks. I will go to the school and catch up on my work.” I was hesitant to leave him like that, but because he noticed my hesitation, he reassured me that he’s going to be fine.
“Thanks! But I can stay over at the school. If I need anything, I would go to you.” That statement made me feel more at ease, knowing that he can count on me. We departed and went our own separate ways.
Phupha’s Pov.
It's been a day. I was starting to regret treating Tian the way I did. I was hurt. I was hurt that he had the audacity to think that I won’t care about our child. If he had told me personally instead of finding out from Nam, I would have been filled with joy.
What makes him think that I will choose work over our child? I love Tian and the idea of raising a family together was my dream ever since we started dating. Now that the anger has washed away, there was only the presence of guilt and shame.
It’s been a day that I haven’t seen him and I’m starting to worry if he’s okay. What if something happened to him? Lately, there has been bad guys out there destroying our village and only causing chaos? What if Tian has faced into them? My world would crash down knowing that it’s my fault if they did something bad to him. If they ever lay a hand on him, they will regret stepping their foot on the village.
