A/N Added a new character, because I can!
-April's P.O.V-
April took off her glasses, ruffled her long, fluffy, dark blonde hair, and rubbed her temples.  How long have I been working? What time is it? She glanced down at the built-in clock on the computer, it read 2:10. She sighed, and pushed away from the desk, cracking her knuckles. She heard the door open behind her, and she spun around in her chair.
"April, you're still working? It's really late, come on, you need to sleep."
"I'm fine May, I'm almost finished with this report!" May crossed her arms, and stared April down.
"This isn't healthy, please sleep. You're going on an expedition tomorrow, and you need rest." April sighed, and got up from her chair, pushing it back in.
"You're right, I need the energy, goodnight." She lightly hugged May, she reciprocated it, and laughed before letting go.
"If you die on this expedition, I will kill you." April hugged May again, and walked over to the exit of the room, waving, before opening the door, and going back to her room.
She got to her room, and pushed open the door. The inside was organized and neat, as she liked it, and furniture was scattered around. The lights were off, and she saw the person she was rooming with, who was fast asleep.
She quietly closed the door, and walked in, the room was extremely dark, so she grabbed a small flashlight from the table. She flicked it on and walked to the closet. April changed into her night clothes, and laid down in her bed, taking off her glasses. She closed her eyes, and slowly drifted off to sleep.
She woke up early the next morning, it was still dark in the room, so she got dressed using the light of the flashlight. April grabbed her glasses, tied her hair up in a loose ponytail, left the room, and closed the door with the same amount of gentleness as the previous night.
She made her way to the meeting room where they would get suited up and sent to explore Level Fun. She had heard of Level Fun before, and it did not sound like a 'fun' place.
She stood in front of the large door, and took a deep breath. She pushed the door open, and stepped in. She was the first one there, other than their local head of science, Laura Mours.
"Thank you for being so punctual, April." April gave a slight bow, and let a smile flash across her face. They sat in silence for a long while, before the others showed up.
Mike came in first, with high shoulders and a large grin. Charlie was not far behind. They both wore ill-fitting lab coats, if they decided to wear one at all, and usually had t-shirts on underneath.
April rolled her eyes at their appearances.  Mike was an awful person who was thoroughly convinced that she was in love with him, he kept attempting to get alone with her, and often leaned in to try and kiss her. Charlie was basically his lackey, and they were both sexist, misogynistic assholes. 
She lightly gripped the edge of her coat, and grinded her teeth.
"Now that we're all here, we are going to talk about the details of this expedition. You will be going to collect samples from, mainly, the cakes, but you will also be taking samples from anything that seems anomalous." Mike crossed his arms and raised an eyebrow.
"How will we tell if something's anomalous?" Ms. Mours narrowed her eyes, and spoke in a serious voice.
"You will know it when you see it." Mike made a face at her. April was appalled, if she ever did that to Ms. Mours, there would surely be consequences, but she just glared harshly at Mike, who started to sweat, and he averted his gaze.
