"This is a fantastic idea, Gen! Going to all the important places where you both have had significant moments together will no doubt spark something within him." Valerie smiled enthusiastically as I got Finn dressed and ready for the day with his aunts.
"Yeah." I breathed looking down at Finn's smiling face as he laid on his back. "Look, I know you're not as optimistic as we all are about this. But it's an opportunity and it's great that he is actually open to the idea. The old Nathan would be running for the hills." Valerie muttered disapprovingly at the last part making me let out a sigh.
Bringing dressed Finn to my chest turning around to finally face her. "But he is the 'old Nathan'. And I don't know if I can go through all of this again with him. Having to explain who I am and what I've done. Which I will eventually be forced to do as he remembers. If he remembers." I expressed to Valerie as her eyes furrowed and lips parted with concern.
After the night Nathan and I had, he told his family about the idea for me to take him where we met. Taking him step by step through our history hoping that retracting our steps would help him jog his memory back. They were all overjoyed and excited for us and Cathy was gracious enough to throw another one of their family's infamous galas to repeat the night we met.
But I was less than optimistic then they clearly were. And I desperately wanted to be, but I was just so exhausted. I was finally happy in my new, small, simple little life with Nathan and our children. With his family who we're staying with us to help plan for our wedding. Nathan and I had our whole life mapped out finally free of my past. Everything I deserved was all in the palm of my hand and was just as easily taken from me. We couldn't seem to catch a break.
Nathan was extremely lucky to have survived the injuries that he sustained from the car accident. Now Nathan was given a second chance, a second opportunity to live the life he had. And it was crushing me to contemplate telling him about me and the person I used to be when we met all over again. But I owed it to Nathan to trust him. Just like before.
"Well if he doesn't remember then you can just use your feminine wiles to have him fall in love with you all over again." Valerie smiled as I grabbed Finn's diaper bag. "It shouldn't be hard to do since he was absolutely infatuated with you." She continued with a chuckle.
"He loved you like no other woman I've seen him with. A love like that isn't something that anyone can just forget. A love like yours is intangible, imbedded in the heart. It isn't something that can simply be forgotten." Valerie said seriously in a soft tone making me stop packing to look up at her again. Her words were slowly easing my skepticism.
"Thank you, Valerie." I smiled sincerely though I was still hesitant to get my hopes up. Nathan may never remember anything of what we had and leave me alone with Rose and Finn to raise on my own. A man that I loved had let me down before and could happen again. It wasn't something that was unimaginable for me to fathom.
Tears collected in my eyes making me turn away to grab the diaper bag to leave the bedroom. Valerie followed me downstairs to Nathan's wide, open living room with tall windows for walls overlooking the city.
There was soft laughter and chatter as I walked down the stairs with Finn in my arms seeing Rose eating breakfast with Emily and Jane's children. Nathan was dressed in his usual sophisticated attire as he sat with Lee, Emily, Jane, and her husband Sebastian. Nathan's eyes looked up from their conversation at me making his smile fade.
Nathan's eyes were glued on me for a moment making me smile remembering that stare of his from when we first met. How I always used to catch him staring when we worked together.
"Oh, my goodness! Look at you." Jane gushed standing up walking towards me tearing my eyes away from him. She reached out to hold Finn making him giggle and coo up at her. Finn was dressed in a warm white long sleeve shirt and baby blue overalls with matching socks and beanie.
