"Mer, get your ass up! We have to leave!" Mark said as he put on his shoes at the front door

"I'm ready." She walked towards him with her braces and crutches

"No chair today?" He asked her and grabbed her bag

"If it's too much I'll use my chair at mom and dad's house." She nods

"I'm here!" Addison ran down the stairs. "Everyone ready?" She smiled at them

"We are." Meredith laughed and moved to the front door and made her way outside

"Get in the car, girls." He opened both doors but eventually also helping Meredith in the back

...

"Mom, have you heard from Derek?" Mark asked, his arm wrapped around Addison as they sat on the couch

"He said he had a surprise, but he didn't wanna say anything else about it." Carolyn shrugs. "He's happy in New York, I assume." The older woman sighed, she missed her son

"Sorry I'm late!" Amelia ran inside the house. "Sorry! I also can't stay very long!"

"It's okay, Amy." Christopher chuckled as their daughter was still as hyper and chaotic as she was as a kid

"Hey guys." She smiled and threw herself on the couch next to Meredith, the blonde wincing a bit from the movement but no one really noticed

"He didn't tell you anything more?" Mark frowned once they all had said hello

"No.." Carolyn shook her head

"Damn, I swear I am so tired." Amelia started talking to Meredith

"How's your internship going?" Meredith asked her sister

"Mer, I swear! I got to watch such cool surgeries!" Amelia nods and explained everything to her sister

Meredith tried to be happy for Amelia but wished she could have done it together, instead of having to work on another floor to do research. She'd rather be able to really work as a doctor. She sometimes had to be on the PEDS floor but not as often as she'd like

...

"I'll go grab the cake." Carolyn nods and stood up when suddenly the doorbell rang

"Are we missing someone?" Christopher frowned

"No. And we're also not expecting someone." Carolyn shook her head and disappeared in the hallway to open the door

By now Meredith had almost fallen asleep from her spot on the couch. She was covered with a blanket while heer tube feeding was still being pumped through her body

"Hello, hello!" Derek suddenly walked inside

"Derek!" Amelia had just put in her jacket as she was about to leave. "Damn, what are you even doing here?" She laughed and hugged him

"I'm moving back to Seattle." He announced with a big smile

"Derek, hi." Meredith smiled from the couch

"Hi Mer. Hi Mark." Derek hugged them both. "Addison, hey! Long time no see."

"Man, why didn't you tell us?" Mark frowned as Derek hugged his dad

"I wanted to keep it a surprise." He chuckled and sat down, Meredith unable to keep her eyes open any longer, but she kept listening

"We could have come to pick you up! What about your furniture?"

"I bought some land, it's amazing! There will be a trailer as long as I'm building the house." Derek explained with a huge smile. "Y'all live together?" He asked

"Mer, Mark and I do, yes." Addison nods, a bit skeptical about Derek

"I have my own flat. A little further from the hospital, together with Kai." Amelia admits

"Mer, nap." Mark said sternly as he saw his sister fighting to stay awake

"I'm kay..." Meredith insisted

"Mer, sweetie.. sleep. You're exhausted." Christopher brushed his hand over his daughter's hair

Within a few seconds she fell asleep, Carolyn stood up to tuck the girl in with a blanket so she'd stay warm

"How is she?" Derek asked his family

"Ups and downs." Addison replied as she was one of Meredith's best friends

...

"No-" Meredith winced as she moved her arm a little.

"Mer, do you want me to pick you up and carry you to the car?" Mark suggested

"No." She quickly say, she didn't wanna get touched, her skin and body felt like they were on fire

"But sweetie, you can't stay on the couch, sleep here tonight. Okay?" Carolyn suggests. "I can get your bed ready, then we only have to get you to bed." She stroke her hand over Meredith's hair

"Kay.." Meredith started sobbing as everything was just getting a bit too much. Then Mark tried lifting Meredith as soft as possible but his heart broke as soon as she started whimpering

"It will be over in a minute." He hurried her to her old bedroom that was still ready. Their old bedrooms were always ready for them, but Meredith was the only one who often used it as it happened a few times it was better for her to not be moved too much

"I'll administer you some meds. But don't fight sleep, honey." Christopher kissed Meredith's head

"Dad-" Meredith whimpered

"Oh sweetie, it's okay. Sleep a bit, it will be much better tomorrow." Christopher tucked her in once he injected her meds. Carolyn and Christopher stayed close as Meredith fell asleep, Mark in the doorway

"Mer.." He sighed. "I have work tomorrow, can any of you drop her off at our place?" Mark asked his parents

"Of course, Mark." Carolyk nods and they all left the door, leaving the door open so they'd be able to hear if something was up
