It is the foretold time
"It shouldn't take more than a month or two"
So that was a fucking lie
I mentioned this in the now-deleted author's note, but I don't really have an excuse other than my brain just being an absolute shitshow and adhd running all over the place, but I truly want to finish this story within a timely manner (there are at least three arcs planned, after all)
My working schedule rn is to update the story every two weeks, and I'm going to have at least one chapter prepared in advance if something comes up so I have some wiggle room
I thank you all for your great patience and I never want an update to take over a year again, genuinely
(Also I realized I should probably mention, readers of the preboot pls don't give spoilers in the comments, especially if you recognize some OCs/plot points that survived the transition to the reboot)
Without further ado, let's get on with this thing!

-after school-
It was at last that time of day.
Phred retrieved his belongings from his locker, then made his way over to Phil's. He wondered if he could manage to scare him at least one more time...
"I can hear you back there, Phred," Phil quipped as Phred had stepped closer to him. "You know that whole saying about fooling me twice. It's not gonna happen." He closed the locker door and turned around.
"That doesn't mean I can't try," Phred countered, crossing his arms. "Anyway, you got any plans today? I'm not particularly in a rush to get home."
"Not really," Phil replied with a shrug. "What were you think--"
A buzzing noise suddenly cut off Phil and broke him from his train of thought. He fished out his phone from his hoodie pocket and frowned at the screen after a moment.
"Something up?" Phred questioned.
"Vanessa asked if I could take care of some of the chores if I'm not busy," Phil mentioned. "I guess I should take care of that... sorry, Phred," he sighed.
"Eh, don't worry about it," Phred shrugged. "Can't exactly prevent life from happening, unfortunately."
"Yeah," Phil regarded him with an apologetic smile. "Tomorrow, though... I definitely won't forget our little 'plan'." he smirked.
"You'd better not," Phred said to him. "I've been waiting all summer to get back into action."
"You and me both," Phil remarked with a chuckle. "If we don't get into too much trouble, we should go after Oddverb next." Oh, how he loathed English class...
"Sounds like a plan," Phred offered Phil a thumbs up. "I suppose I'll be seeing you then?"
"See you," Phil said and turned to walk away, Phred sighing to himself once Phil had gone. Now he needed to find someone else to bother...
He didn't particularly know Smiley outside of the group setting, so he decided to see what Zack was up to.
"Hey," Phred approached Zack just as he'd closed his locker. Unfortunately he didn't make it in time to attempt a jumpscare. "What are you up to today?"
"I'm actually heading to my dad's ice cream shop," Zack slipped his arms through the straps of his backpack. "You can come with me if you want, I suppose.".
"Shit, I'm not going to pass on ice cream," Phred declared with a grin. "Let's get outta here."
