Scarlett's POV

Much to Alice's luck it was Friday again, which meant we were going back to the station for another tour. Of course, I promised to take out other kids this time, because otherwise, it wouldn't be fair, but I obviously couldn't avoid taking Alice and Bruno with me.

So this time Mary and I grabbed Alice, Bruno, Faye, and Max and made our way to the station. The way there was no different than the last time, the children all talked at once and were so excited that they almost passed out. Mary on the other hand was awfully quiet.

Me: "Hey you okay", I asked gently nudging her in the side.

Mary: "Yeah, everything's...fine", she said avoiding to look at me.

Me: "Hey, you can tell me, I won't tell anyone."

Mary: "It's just...Joey was sent to his Dad's place last week. I might never get to see him again", Mary sighed.

Joey is Mary's half-brother. When their mother passed away, they both were enrolled in foster care, because Joey's Dad had alcohol problems. He went to rehab and had to go through a lot of trials, to win custody of Joey again, leaving Mary behind since she wasn't his daughter.

I couldn't help myself and gave Mary the tightest hug ever.

Me: "It'll be okay", I said trying to reassure her.

Mary: "You don't know that Scar", she said wiping a tear from her eyes.

Me: "I don't know that no...but I know that Joey loves you and I know that he will do anything to see you again."

Mary gave me a thanking smile and we continued our way to the station.

We started our tour in the barn since the kids were obsessed with the fire trucks, this time with a woman called Andy Herrera. It took them a while until they saw the fireman's pole.

Bruno: "OH MY GOD. I didn't even see this the last time, this is so cool."

Andy: "Yeah well you know what's mean though. We aren't allowed to use it", she said bending down a little.

Faye: "What?"

Andy: "Yeah, it's unfair. Why would you put such a cool thing in a fire station and we're not allowed to use it."

Alice: "Well can't you ask your boss", Alice asked kind of shyly.

Andy: "We did, but she said no."

Bruno: "That's really unfair of her", Bruno said crossing his arms.

Andy just laughed and we spent some more time looking at the fire trucks until Vic took Andy's place to show the kids the rest of the tour.

Vic: "You can't get enough of this place can you", Vic laughed as she looked at me.

Me: "Hey don't blame me. We got a lot of kids back at Whoville, so you'll be seeing me quite A LOT", I laughed.

Vic: "Well, then let's get started."

Instead of going with them, I asked for directions to the bathroom.

I was really thirsty, but I didn't want to ask for some water. I made my way to the bathroom and drank from the faucets, also using the moment to check up on my ribs. I slowly lifted my T-shirt and saw that they were all green and yellow.

As ugly and disturbing as that might look, it's a good sign, it means it's healing. I lowered my T-shirt back down and made my way back downstairs. The kids and Vic were all at the entrance, with Vic telling them to be quiet.
