Ezra was happier than he had ever been. The girl he had loved for forever had kissed him on the cheek! She was holding his hand!
Sabine was also ecstatic. No longer did her thoughts haunt her. She knew that Ezra loved her, and that was all she had ever wanted.
Soon, the Ghost was in sight. "Okay, here's the plan," Sabine said. "I'll go in. You hide behind those rocks over there. See them?" Ezra looked at the rock formation. "When I give you the signal, come out and surprise them. Got it?"
"What's the signal?"
"This." Sabine showed him a not-so-pleasant hand sign. "No, Sabine, the real one!" Ezra protested. Sabine laughed and tapped her gun holster twice. "That's the signal, you lothrat." She gave him a kiss on the cheek again. "Go hide!"
In a giddy daze, Ezra walked over to the rocks. "I see you strutting, Bridger!" Sabine shouted. "I was just walking!" Ezra yelled back. Sabine rolled her eyes and entered the Ghost.
"Hera! Zeb! Chop! I'm back!" she yelled. She heard Chopper's beeps and whistles, Zeb's grunts as he was probably woken up from sleep, but best of all, Hera's delighted, "Sabine!"
"I'm outside!" Sabine yelled and rushed out the hangar door. She could see the tip of Ezra's head peeking up from the rocks. She signaled for him to get down. He must have taken that as the secret hand signal, so as Hera, Zeb, and Chopper disembarked, he popped out from behind the rocks, yelling, "Surprise!"
Sabine rolled her eyes, but she had a huge smile on her face. Hera burst into tears and pulled him into one of her patented strangle-hugs. Zeb grinned so wide it looked like his face would split in two, and clapped Ezra in the back so hard he went sprawling. Even Chopper refrained from his usual antics and patted Ezra's hand.
"Come inside! We have a lot to talk about," Hera said. Ezra could see her looking at a small child with green hair, shyly peeking at them from inside the ship. Right away, he could tell that this kid had the Force. And that he was Kanan and Hera's son.
The others went inside, leaving Ezra and Sabine alone in the field. Ezra grabbed Sabine's hand and kissed her forehead gently. "It's good to be back," he whispered. Sabine smiled and they walked home together, hand in hand.
