I walked up to my hut and I was Omocan standing outside of the doorway.

"Does this conversation include you again?" I said, irritated.

"Yes, it does. Whether you like it or not I'm going to be in your life a lot more," he said, walking into the hut behind me.

I rolled my eyes, trying to keep my distance from him. Just his presence disgusted me.

"Y/n. Sit," my father said as I made my way over to him.

"What seems to be the problem?" I asked, sitting down.

"The problem is you are going against what I told you," he said, disappointed.

"Pardon?"

"I have been informed that you have been spending quite some time with Jake Sully's oldest son. Is this true?"

I turned my head and looked at Omocan. He must've been watching us this morning at the dock. That little rat.

"Yes, father this is true. I have been showing him the ways of our people like you told me to do."

"I told you to show them our ways, yes, but that doesn't include tickling and fooling around with each other."

"I'm not sure what this has to do with anythi-" I began to stand but was stopped by my father's words.

"Sit down!"

I immediately listened and hung my head low. He may be my father, but he can be scary when he wants to be. That's how he always got us to listen when we were children.

"You listen closely Y/n because I will only say this once. You are meant to be with Omocan whether you like it or not. That Sully boy is not from our village so I do not think that he is suitable for you," he explained.

"And what if I don't think that's how things should be? He is one of us now, just like you said when they arrived here."

"It doesn't matter what you think. You are my daughter you must do as I say and I say that you need to stay away from him or there will be consequences. Understood?"

I lifted my head and nodded. "Understood."

"Good now, why don't you go help set up for the feast tonight? I'm sure you could be of some use there," he said before turning away from me.

"Yes father," I said, standing up and walking out of the hut.

Why do things have to be the way they are? He can't just forbid me from seeing someone. It's a small island and our clan is very tight. It would be difficult for me to stay away from him. I had two options here. I could listen to my father and ignore Neteyam or I could explain to Neteyam what's going on exactly and make sure to do a better job making sure no one sees us. Either way, I needed to think of something fast before I got into more trouble.

As I continued thinking about what I could do, I could hear the sound of someone coming up behind me.

"Omocan I swear to Aywa if you say one more thing to me," I said, angrily.

"It's just me." I turned around and Lo'ak was standing there.

"Oh, Lo'ak I'm sorry I didn't know it was you," I said sighing.

"It's alright. I wouldn't want to be around that kurkung (asshole) either," he responded.

"What did you need?"

"I wanted to ask you a few questions if that's okay."

"Of course. I have all the time in the world. Ask away."

"Well, I couldn't help but notice that you and my brother have gotten close recently and he seems to be a lot happier because of it. I also happen to know that you are supposed to be with Omocan."

"Go on."

"What are you going to do about that whole situation? I don't want to bug you about it but I don't want my brother to get hurt. He seems to really care about you."

I paused for a moment and sighed.

"I don't know what I'm going to do Lo'ak. I don't want to be with Omocan but my parents aren't giving me the option. That's where I just was. Omocan told my father about how close Neteyam and I have been getting lately."

"Does Neteyam know this?"

"That's the thing. I'm not allowed to tell him this because my father told me that I'm not allowed to see him anymore or there will be consequences."

I could see Lo'ak thinking about it for a moment. Then it seemed like an idea had popped into his head.

"Okay, I have an idea. Tonight, at the feast, you're going to tell him everything. You're going to be around all of us anyway. There's no way that your father will get mad at you in front of your whole clan. Plus, your sister and brother will be around us too so there shouldn't be an issue," he said.

"Lo'ak you're a genius! Thank you," I said, pulling him into a hug from excitement.

"I know I know. We better not let Neteyam see you hug me, he might get jealous," he said, laughing.

"Okay I have to go help set up for the feast but I will see you tonight. Thank you again," I said as I made my way to the celebration tent.

"See ya," he said waving.

I really hope this works. It has to.
