Because of Klaus' plan to take down Marcel's empire, which resulted in one of his vampires being sentenced to the Garden for the death of a vampire, Marcel ended up having to face the witch he believed had caused all of this. He was unaware that it had been Klaus' plan that had enacted this all. And so, Marcel got himself killed, trying to come after Katie in the street. Klaus was elsewhere at the time, so he hadn't been there to be able to stop it.

Meanwhile, Caroline was unaware of what all had happened. She was in a room, tied to a chair. Marcel had taken her a couple nights ago, being smart enough to know that a vampire he didn't know coming to his town meant she had to be connected to Klaus, so she'd been taken. She was weak from the vervain on the ropes, as well as needing to eat. Being as young as she was as a vampire, she couldn't go long without any blood bags. And anyone that knew her well enough, would know that she didn't want to feed from a human, because she didn't like hurting people. And she remembered from personal experience how it felt to be fed by from a vampire. It didn't feel too great.

With all the planning, Rebekah and Klaus both hadn't realized that Caroline was missing. When he found out that Marcel was killed though, he killed the witch responsible. Then he and Rebekah realized finally that she was MIA. But with Marcel dead, if Marcel had taken her, unless she was at the compound, there was no way to know where he'd taken her. And so, that night, he and Rebekah went home to the compound they'd built in the past, where the remainder of Marcel's vampires were. Then they both stood in the middle of the courtyard.

"Marcel took what we built. He took everything. Now, with his unfortunate death, everything that was once ours, is Mikaelson property again. Before I make you decide whether to follow me or die, we have something to discuss. Marcel took someone. I need her back. If any of you know where she is, it would be in your best interest if you told me. Then, maybe I'd show you some mercy, and let you live. What will it be?"

"What does it matter if Marcel took anyone? If he did, he did it for a good reason. None of us have to tell any of you anything," one of them said to them.

In a blur, Rebekah pinned him against one of the pillars, hand around his throat.

"Usually, I don't like to resort to violence, but I will if you don't start giving us some answers. I normally don't care much for young vampires, but this one I do. Now, shall I count to three?"

"He took a blonde upstairs during the party a couple nights ago," another one finally stated.

"That wasn't so bad, now, was it?" she replied, letting the one she had go, tossing him to the ground.

A moment later, they both began to slaughter what was left of Marcel's vampires. Then, when all was said and done, Rebekah went to go fetch Davina to take her to the compound if possible. But not to use her as a weapon, as Klaus wanted to do. Then Klaus went upstairs in search of the blonde vampiress.

When Klaus found her, he was angry at what Marcel had done to her. He was glad that she was alive and would be okay, though. Anyone that knew Klaus, knew that he'd do everything to keep her safe and unharmed.

He blurred over to her, beginning to untie her.

"I'm here, luv. It's okay."

After she'd been freed, they hugged each other. Then he informed her that the compound was theirs like it should've been all along. Then, after she'd fed from some blood bags, she got her strength back, and would be just fine. And so, building trust in the Quarter and making whatever vampires were left alive trust Klaus and the rest of them began soon after.
