"Should I be honest?"
"Never mind, I think I know the answer." He grinned, taking a sip of his drink, which certainly was strong due to its pungent smell.
"Well, I am curious to know what is barricading you from enjoying this grant party?" I asked peeping at him, I noticed he was not involved in the party much.
" Not in the mood,–"
For a second I could see Holden had a disturbed expression on his face which he had smoothly masked.
"-and how could a gentleman like me leave a pretty lady on her own," he said charmingly, and made me blush. I know he was trying to cover the real reason with his polished words.
Suddenly, I felt the intense pressure of someone's heated gaze on my face, l looked around, and my eyes fell over Aiden. He was standing at the entrance of the kitchen with an unfamiliar boy, the boy speaking to him but he had his heavy stare on me. Slowly his eyes shifted, and landed on Holden, sharply. His jaw clenched, and coldness crossed over his face.
I didn't even notice when he had entered the kitchen. The smile on my face washed away and a frown took over.
Our eyes fastened, and mysterious energy passed between us, that raced through my heart and spread in my body. The thick feeling in my chest was foreign to me, only seeming to surface when I was around him.
Soon, his eyes hardened into stone, he broke the harmony and swerved around, disappearing from my slight and blending into the crowd.
What is his problem?
"Holden, man come here and see this," someone called through the mass of people. I reckoned that this strange interaction went overlooked by Holden, as he happened to be occupied conversing with me, and unfortunately, his words fell deaf on my ears.
Holden looked at me, silently asking if I will fine on my own. Even though I won't be but I didn't want to hold him back, so I just nodded.
"I will be just back in a few minutes if you want you can find Grace there," he suggested and indicate toward the left side where most people were congested.
With a brief nod, he was gone.
I was all alone, I let out a heavy sigh.
Not a moment of peace I got, unexpectedly a hand grasp on my shoulder and I shuttered. Harshly, I was swiveled around, I was confronted by a heavily intoxicated stranger.
"Alone, huh?" the stranger asked, the smell of hard liquor that emitted from his body burnt my nostril.
Then, the moment, I was tongue-tied, without delaying further, I jabbed him hard in his stomach and that action made me stumbled a little back, taking the advantage of the opportunity in his moment of weakness, I scurried away in search of Grace.
My heart was beating drastically, I didn't know his intention but to be on the safer aspect I did what I reckoned was favorable. People usually don't know what they are doing in their intoxicated state. The far my eyes went, I could only glimpse the mass bodies, my search for her was vain, floundering and stumbling between while instead of finding Grace I discovered a secluded place.
The floor was eerily quiet, I was pretty stunned that drunk stupor didn't abided people to invade this beautiful place.
The floor was adorned with authentic statues and vases, just one room was erected on the floor, and the room was substantial enough to occupy the entire floor. I desired a moment of peace, and this place was lending it. I stood in front of a closed door, the mystery behind the large oak door was calling me to solve it. My curiosity compelled my legs to intrude on someone's private place, it was a bad move but it was an instinctive move.
