trigger warning: mentions of abuse/neglect
- autumn's pov -"Three-" Asher said, and right on the last number he and I booked it in different directions. I head right, which was where the crime scene took place, making my way around Heaven's car.
"Hey! Stop running! Or I will shoot!" The officer shouted. He chose to come after one of us, and it seems like he picked me. I heard his heavy boots jogging toward Heaven's car. I waited for him to get close enough, then ran back around toward where the officer's car was, leaving him behind her car, where I just was. I sprinted to the driver's side of the car, and opened the unlocked police car door, quickly unlocking the passenger seat so Asher could jump in. We both slammed our doors in sync, and I leaned underneath the steering wheel, hitting the underneath with my fist until the console popped open, revealing three groups of jumbled-together wires. I was tunnel vision on doing this, I didn't even listen to Asher complain "Hurry up, he's getting closer- Autumn!"
I find the group of electrical wires that led to the ignition and battery. I grab the two wires, putting one in my mouth quickly to peel off the covering around, then I connected them and held the tips together with my fingers. The car started to come alive, the lights turned on along with the clock

I grab the starter wire and carefully strip the covering off, and slowly put it close to the two battery wires I have connected. Creating a spark, the car started. I ignored the burn I'm going to have on my fingers. I revved the engine to keep it alive.
"Autumn, we need to go," Asher said. The officer must be not even a foot away, threatening to shoot through the glass.
I cranked the wheel to get it out of its lock and put the car in reverse. I backed out quickly, turning the wheel and quickly getting out of the parking lot, and onto the main road. I flinched when I heard a few gunshots, but it was nothing I needed to worry about right now. I gained speed, turning off that road and onto a smaller, less populated road. What a way to start the New Year, right?
"Holy shit-" Asher said, glancing behind him to see if anyone was behind us. There wasn't. This was a two-lane road surrounded by skinny trees. "Holy fucking shit. That was badass, I won't lie"
I roll my eyes, and soon we heard the police radio in the car start to go off. "ALL UNITS, WATCH FOR SQUAD CAR NUMBER 1467. TWO YOUNG ADULTS, A MALE, AND A FEMALE. POSSIBLY ARMED. JUST TURNED OFF LOMAS, HEADING WEST." The lady dispatcher said over the radio.
Asher and I look at each other. I had slowed down, and this desolate road had no one to see us anyway. "We need to ditch this car," I said slowly, pulling off the road and into a treed area. I put the car in park, opening my door. Asher just followed. "Let's cross the road and head opposite of the way we were going. We'll stay in the trees so no one sees us."
"Why're we heading back to where we just came?" Asher asked as I started for the empty street. My foot hit the concrete, glancing in both directions before continuing to cross the street.
Once I got across, I assumed Asher was behind me. "Because when they see the car they're going to mostly be looking on that side of the road, and they will assume we kept heading west. It's stupid for us to walk this way, but they're not expecting it. So they won't look for it" I explain, heading for the rows of skinny trees. Once I was in the forest-like area, I just headed East. I kept my head down, and Asher and I didn't talk. I still felt dizzy from the alcohol, and off balance from the shrooms (even though they were starting to leave my system). I just ignored my state of mind and kept walking, slowly getting further and further away from the road we were just driving on.
