In their home dimension
Milli was extremely worried about her kids. It had been two days since she had heard from Gwen, Peter or Sam. Had it been only Sam, Milli wouldn't have been as worried. Sam had previously left the house on several occasions for a couple of nights without telling her. Sam also had a tendency of leaving without her satellite device or with her device having little battery power left. However, the same wasn't true for the other two. Gwen always came home at night and Peter always told Milli when he left the house. Milli had called the police the previous day but they couldn't do anything more than take her information until more time passed. Milli didn't know what to do. She knew that they were happy with her so she ignored the possibility that they had left to get away from her. She also found it suspicious that Rose's car has been in her driveway for the past two days. She knew that it was Rose's because the previous day, she had broken into the vehicle to find out to whom it belonged and if it had any indication of where her kids might have gone.
On a handheld device, Milli made a list of places that each of the three enjoyed. She had already visited a few of them and hoped to think of new ones. While making the list in the dining room, Greg walked in and asked if she had heard from any of them.
When she told him that she hadn't, Greg said, "Maybe I can help."
Milli became excited. She thought that Greg had a friend who knew where they could be or who could track them down.
Greg made a couple of calls but no one seemed to answer them. He said, "Gwen and Sam still aren't answering. Liz forgot her bag here. When she comes to pick it up, maybe she can tell you where Peter is."
Milli's face lit up as she half-shouted, "Liz! Of course!"
Milli headed out the door and went to Liz' home. Milli was so eager to get there that she forgot that Liz and her parents had recently moved to a condominium building and she initially went to the wrong place.
Inside Liz' condo building, Milli stood at a door slightly nervous and knocked. She wasn't sure what to expect. It was unlikely that Peter would be there but part of her hoped that he had forgotten to call her for the past two days. A man and a woman opened the door together. For a second, they appeared happy but the joy faded quickly.
The woman said, "We thought you were someone else. It's been a while, Milli."
Milli replied, "Were you hoping that it was Liz? I assume that my son isn't here."
The woman responded, "No, he isn't. How did you know we hoped you'd be Liz? ... Come in."Milli walked into their condo and to a dark brown two-seater couch as the man offered her a drink. Milli declined his offer and sat on the couch. Liz' parents seated themselves on the matching three-seater couch in front of Milli.
"Do you have any idea where Liz could be?" asked Liz' father.
Milli answered, "Unfortunately, I don't know much about what's happened. I know that three of my kids are missing and now, I think that Liz is with them. I don't know where to look for them. It doesn't makes sense. Peter doesn't even leave the house without telling me."
"Same thing here. We've already checked her favourite stores and restaurants. We went by your place but when we saw her bicycle wasn't there, we assumed she wasn't either." Liz' mother smiled a little, looked at her husband, and added, "Knowing she's not alone makes this better."
The man added, "I really do hope she's with them. We were afraid she had run off to be with people she felt she had more in common. It is unlikely. She's dealt with knowing she's adopted well and didn't mind us not having abilities but we've always feared it. Since the move, she doesn't see the neighbours who helped her through her childhood much. One of them even died before we left. Liz was incredibly close to them."
Disappointed, Milli responded, "You don't have any special abilities? I was hoping that if neither of them were here, you may be able to do something that I couldn't to find them."
Liz' mother answered, "No, we don't."
Milli replied, "This is more nerve-wrecking than when they told me that they were going to an alternate universe."
Liz' mother became excited. "An alternate universe? If she's lost in another dimension, I might know someone who can help us."
Milli responded, "I doubt that they've created another portal. They didn't enjoy their first experience."
Liz' father replied, "It may not have been intentional. I have a few friends and family members with abilities and a lot of accidents happen while they're learning to control them. My cousin once blew up half the basement when he intended to blow up a vase."
Liz' mom stood up and said, "Let's go see Marc. Hopefully, he's home."
