It didn't take long for lunch to roll around, something Lexi was really happy for. The brunette went through the lunch line humming a soft tune to herself as she picked out pizza, apple slices, French fries, and a bottle of cola. She waited for the lunch lady to ring her food up, paid, and then promptly made her way to her usual table where Embry, Paul, Jared, Quil and even Jacob sat waiting. She was surprised to see Jacob but shrugged it off. They were his friends too.

Lexi greeted them with a soft smile, she was a little off settled with Jake but tried not to let it show as she started eating her fries without a word. Jacob glanced at her but didn't say anything either.

"Ooh burn, she's not even talking to you." Embry told Jacob as he lightly smacked him in the shoulder. "What's wrong Lexi bug?" He turned to the brunette. "I know Jake's an ass but you can still talk to all of us."

She had to hide the laugh threatening to come from her lips as Jacob rolled his brown eyes at his other best friend. Embry was quite the character, it was something Lexi had realized during the years she had known him.

If she had to pick anyone besides Jacob that she called her closest friend it would definitely be Embry Call.

"I'm fine Emmy Bug." She responded in a cool tone, finishing off the fries she had. She always went for fries first because cold fries were incredibly gross to her. Lexi pushed the empty container out of her way to eat her pizza.

Paul raised an eyebrow at her but didn't say anything else about it. He just gave her the look that said they could talk about it later. One good thing about her boyfriend was that he didn't push her about things and waited for her to talk when she wanted to.

Embry however didn't get the memo. He just wanted his two close friends to make up. "But you two." He said pointing to Jake and Lexi. "Are like two peas in a pod and you're ignoring each other like one of you has a deadly disease."

"Well one of us was being a bitch." Lexi muttered quietly.

"I can hear you Alex."

"Oh I guess his hearing does work after all."

"Now who's being the bitch?"

"Still you ass."

"You're being-"

"Say I'm being unreasonable one more time..." Lexi warned him before he could complete his sentence.

Jacob huffed. "Fine." He murmured taking a sip of his drink. "I just think-"

"I wouldn't Jacob." Jared.

"Yeah not cool man." Embry and Quil.

"You know how Bella is." Paul.

"I know what you think. I'm being unreasonable. Bella's amazing and can do no harm right? Did I cover everything Jacob?"

"Please Alex, just stop talking bad about her that's all I'm asking."

Lexi started seeing red again as she squeezed her pizza slice making sauce get all over her hands. Paul's eyes widened before he got a napkin to clean his girlfriend's hands up. All of the guys started trying to calm her down or shut Jacob up; something to stop the situation from escalating.

"You little-" Lexi gritted her teeth.

Paul reached over the table to grab her hand but she gently moved hers away. She was in no room to calm down and let this go. They needed to eventually find common ground with each other since Bella was back. There was no shipping the oldest Swan off even if Lexi volunteered to pay for the costs. All she could do was try to salvage this with Jake somehow. Lexi took a deep breath before trying again.

"Jacob."

"Alex."

"Humph." She said, crossing her arms. She wasn't sure what to say. What did someone say in this type of situation anyways?

The guys just looked back at each other worriedly; none of them knew what to do.

Jacob finally said something. "I'm sorry."

Lexi raised her eyebrow. "For?" She prodded him.

"I was an ass, okay? I'm sorry."

"Are you going to keep being an ass about my sister or are you going to remember that I'm not the bad guy here?"

"I'll stop. I just seen her again and it's hard to not remember how I felt about her. I shouldn't have let that come in between us though."

Lexi wanted to barf as he talked about his crush on Bella but she held her food down and let him finish. She nodded her head. "Well then all is forgiven. And if you make up for it I might even let you ride in my car."

At this Paul spoke up. "It's a nice car man, I loved riding in it. Hell I loved driving it."

Jacob laughed, it was a deep sounding chuckle. Lexi had noticed earlier in the summer his voice had started to mature more. She just hoped he didn't change his hair anytime soon, she preferred the long locks of his hair.

She was smiling now. She felt a million times better now that she and Jake made up. He was one of her safe spaces and without him things just felt unbalanced and strange.

Her phone started ringing and she looked down at the caller ID seeing Charlie's name. "Hey dad." Lexi said as she answered.

"Hey squirt, you still at lunch right?"

"Yea..."

His voice was stressed. "I need you to drive over to the hospital. Bella's been in an accident."

Lexi bit down on her tongue before she stressed her dad out more. It's her first day, how the hell did she manage this? "Is she okay?"

"Yeah." Charlie's voice sounded. Lexi could tell over the phone he was tired and barely staying awake enough to deal with this. "I'm already here, I don't expect you to want to deal with your sister but I would appreciate the extra hand Alex."

Lexi's voice was sincere as she responded. "I'll be on my way, dad."

"Thanks squirt. I love you."

"I love you too." She said before hanging up.

Lexi turned to the guys. "My freakish sister got into an accident so I'm meeting dad at the hospital." She grabbed her tray to go throw it away.

"Do you want me to go with you?"

She looked at Jacob with a raised eyebrow. "Should I even ask why it is you're wanting to go?"

"I wanted to go for moral support for you."

"Twenty four hours ago you berated me over her sake don't blame me if I don't believe that." Lexi informed, picking the tray up now and heading for the trash to throw away the food before giving the tray back.

When she got back to the table she gave Paul a quick kiss and the guys a hug. She stopped in front of Jacob.

"I want to try to make this right Alex."

She tilted her head watching him and reading through his facial expression. He seemed genuine, she supposed. "Alright."

"You won't regret it."

"I'd better not."
