POV Seraphina

I opened my eyes, being still a little sleepy.
Yesterday went probably later than expected because I finally packed my suitcase, quite excitedly I have to add.

I got up slowly and walked towards the bathroom, which was directly connected to my room.
I yawned once and looked in the mirror, which now hung directly in front of me.
I saw my tousled blonde hair and reached for my toothbrush.

I brushed my teeth and thought about Nevermore Academy.
A school for outsiders that finally accepted me.
I combed my hair so that it fell straight down again and was very satisfied with the result.

I went back to my room and pulled the suitcase towards the door so I could load all the stuff in advance.
"Do you need help dear sister?", I registered a voice next to me and my soul almost left my body.

"Don't scare me like that Micah!", I yelled a bit angry, but he just grinned cheekily and shrugged his shoulders.
He took the heavy suitcase from my hand and carried it further down.
I looked after him gratefully and followed him slowly.

Something special connected us both.
Micah was my younger brother and inherited my father's genes.
My father always said it was a miracle how much I was able to tame my brother.

His first transformation came on his 16th birthday, when I was 18 myself, and our meeting was totally unexpected.

If you transformed, then you were different than in your human form.
My father often explained to me how it had been for him and I was fascinated by the whole thing to this day.
One is guided by impulses and developed a strong urge to enter into an alliance.

My brother's awakening was awakened by my actions.
We've always been close, and that one night I found myself strolling outside again.
It was supposed to be a red full moon and at that time a special kind of rose bloomed.
So I was out in the woods looking for a red moon flower and wasn't particularly careful.

x

Clumsy as I was, I tripped over a rock and cut my knee.
"Great!"
I scolded myself and tried to staunch the light bleeding with a handkerchief.
I've been outside for a while now and still no trace of the rare plant.

I thought about it and I could only think of one place to look.

"The little cliff, of course!", I thought out loud and continued walking through the forest.
I wasn't a few meters away when a queasy feeling spread through me.
Normally you could make out sounds of the night's bustle, but suddenly there was only silence.

I looked around confused, but couldn't see anything specific.
I didn't inherit my father's nature, but I could see better at night than normal people.
So, shrugging, I walked on and refocused on the red moonflower.

The reddish light of the full moon fell elegantly on the small cliff and illuminated it gently.
Smiling, I walked to the small clearing that was free of trees and looked down in amazement.

Not far away was a small village that was brightly lit by the many street lamps.
I looked around but didn't find any of the red flowers.
Defeated, I sighed loudly and sat down on the edge of the cliff so that I could at least enjoy the view.

My legs dangled over the edge of the cliff and I casually watched a small firefly.
It flew to the right and continued to pull down.
I looked after the little thing with a smile and leaned forward a little further to be able to watch the firefly.

It danced back up and scurried past something red.
I widened my eyes in surprise and stretched to see if it really was the moonflower I was so longing for.

In fact, on the small cliff further down, grew a small red flower that was no doubt a rare moonflower.

I was about to get up and walk towards the flower when I heard a wheeze behind me.
I froze and could practically hear my heart pounding in my throat.
An unpleasant cracking sound was heard and a shiver ran down my spine.

Could it be a werewolf that happened to be watching me?
I slowly turned around and saw large, inhuman eyes studying me.

It looked at me intently and came a little closer.
There was a sort of growl and I took a cautious step backwards, having learned from my father that it was important not to panic.

The monster's head tilted further towards me and I could hear a slight sniffing sound.
I cautiously wanted to take another step backwards, but completely forgot the fact that there was a cliff behind me and I couldn't retreat any further.

My foot stepped into empty space and my eyes widened.
Without any support, I fell backwards and all I could hear was a horrific scream from the monster.
I closed my eyes and everything felt like slow motion.

The cold night air quickly enveloped me, but I only fell a few seconds before I stopped dead in the air and my right ankle was caught in a noose.
Confused, I opened my eyes and looked up towards my foot.

The monster grabbed my ankle and slowly pulled me up.
It stopped at eyes level and looked at me intently.
My breath caught and I looked motionless into his big eyes.

His eyes had a particularly beautiful blue hue, that I only knew from one person and at that moment it "clicked" in my brain.

"Micah?" I asked cautiously and the monster tilted its head slightly to the right.
It gently nudged its nose against mine and now looked at me a little softer.

It cautiously laid me down on the floor and looked at me again.
Slowly It started sniffing again and stopped at my bruised knee.
Its facial expressions immediately changed and it began to growl, glaring at me.

I wanted to cover the wound quickly, but was stopped by the monster's huge claw as I tried to pull down my pants a little further.
It gave me a warning look and I slowly understood what this was all about.

Micah must have inherited my father's genes and woke up for the first time today!
From the looks of it, my accident earlier triggered all of this.

I cautiously extended my hand and Micah froze in his transformed form.
He looked at me with slightly narrowed eyes and waited to see what I was up to.

I put my hand on his forehead and lightly stroked his skin.
He visibly relaxed, closed his eyes and leaned his head into my hand.

x

I had to think back to that night with a smile.
Micah was awakened by my blood.
His Hyde had bonded with me and developed an urge to protect me.

"Are you coming or what?", I heard Micah from downstairs and quickly ran into his direction.
"I'm already here!", I called and thanked him for bringing my suitcase down.
