WHAT WAS GOING ON WAS ALL ARA COULD THINK. when she entered the Byers's home the first thing that attracted her attention was the drawings on the walls and floor. They looked like tree roots. blue tree roots.

She turned around on herself to get a look of everything all at once.

"The boys are in that room." Joyce said point to a closed door.

Ara nodded and thanked Mrs. Byers but she was confused on what she meant by 'the boys' but she assumed it meant Jonathan who was Will's older brother.

But she was off. Ara entered the room to see Mike and Will sat on Will's bed.

"What are you doing here?" Mike exclaimed, furrowing his eyebrows.

"I'm trying to help." She said, trying to keep calm.

"How are you supposed to help when you don't even know what's going on."

"I would if you wouldn't have kept it a secret."

"Guys." Will stopped the two from continuing this any further.

They both looked at him, sighing and Will spoke. "Ara, you know how I went missing last year." He trailed off

————

Will had explained what had happened last year along with Mike and saying that Ara was surprised would be an understatement.

Then Will told her and Mike about the shadow monster.

"It's like I feel what the Shadow Monster's feeling." He said. "See what he seeing."

"Like in the Upside down?" Ara asked.

"Some of him is there but some of him is here too."

"Here — like — in this house?" Mike asked.

"In this house and.. in me."

"It's like. It's like he's reaching into Hawkins. More and more and the more he spreads the more connected to him I feel."

"And the more you see these now memories." Ara pieced together.

"At first I just felt it. In the back of my head. I didn't even really know he was there. It's like when you have a dream and you can't remember it unless you think really hard. It was like that but now it's like now I remember. I remember all the time."

"Maybe.. that's good." Mike said.

"What?"

"Just think about Will, you're like a spy now. A super spy. Spying on the shadow monster. If you know what he's seeing and feeling, maybe that's how we can stop him. Maybe all of this is happening for a reason."

"You really think so?"

"Yeah." Mike said. Ara nodded in agreement although she was still weary of it. "I really do."

Will looked at his drawing of the monster making Ara and Mike do the same.

"It's just- if he figures out that we're spying on him, what if he spies back."

"He won't." Mike said firmly.

"How do you know."

"We won't let them." Ara said.

————

Will woke up heavily breathing that morning.

"Will, what's wrong." Both Mike and Ara asked.
