"Oh my god Cass, what happened to her body?" You ask looking at Dimitri.
"We buried her next to your mother, so they can be at peace together." Dimitri says squeezing your hand.
"She would've liked that." You say wiping the tears from your eyes.
"When can we go home? I need to see Max and Daniel." You say looking between Dimitri and Camille who share an awkward glance.
"I'll leave you two alone. I'll be back to check on you later." Camille says squeezing your hand and stepping out of the room.
"Before Max left, he asked me to give you something when you woke up." Dimitri says reaching into his pocket and pulling out a hand written letter written on the hospital stationary.
My darling wife Arya,
When we first started dating you joked that our lives would bring the death of each other. Tonight, that came true. Your heart stopped as you laid in my arms, and I thought I lost you forever. Maybe I have, I'm not sure if you'll ever wake up. Dr. Rossi wasn't sure with the amount of blood you lost. I can't be the reason your heart stops again. My life is too dangerous, and I won't risk losing you again. You're too important to the world, to the people around you to take you away from it. I want you to live the life you always wanted, the life you deserve, away from crime, away from death, away from the mafia. Away from me. I won't be at home when you return, please do not come looking for me, it'll only make this harder.
I'll love you forever my princess, but you deserve better.
Your husband,
Max
"This is some kind of joke right?" You say looking at Dimitri, tears in your eyes. "Some one made him write this. This is not like Max. This is not my Max." You say tears falling down your face as you hold onto the letter. Dimitri wraps his arms around you holding you close while you sob.
"Where's my phone? I need to call him." You say and Dimitri hands you your purse, still packed from the last day at the track. You pull out your phone and it's dead. Obviously. You grab the charger from your purse and make Dimitri plug it into the wall. It's the longest minute of your life as your phone starts up again. You ignore all of your text messages and call Max. The line rings, and rings, and rings but there is no answer you just get his voicemail.
You've reached Max Verstappen you know what to do.
"Max, Dimitri just gave me your letter. What the fuck. I'm alive by the way. Call me we need to talk." You say hanging up and tossing your phone to the side swinging your legs out of bed.
"Woah, woah, woah, what are you doing?" Dimitri asks running over.
"Standing up. What does it look like I'm doing?" You ask as you push yourself onto your feet and Dimitri gives you his hands for balance.
"He does not get to leave me like this. Not like this with a fucking letter while I'm pregnant with his child. After," you say tearing up. "After everything we've been through, we don't end. Not like this." You say determined to get back to Monaco.
"When can we leave?" You ask Dimitri sternly.
"I'll go ask Dr. Rossi." Dimitri says ask you climb back into bed. "Good, thank you."
You grab your phone again and try Max, but no luck same voice mail. You decide to call Daniel, it rings, and rings, and rings, but eventually he picks up.
"Hello?" Daniel asks sounding half asleep.
"Daniel, hey." You say looking at the time. It's 2pm in Monaco what is he doing sleeping.
