Things aren't looking too good for the Razor Crest by the time we land on Nevarro.
I cross my arms, raising one eyebrow as the ramp of the ship groans and stops about halfway down. Din sighs from his place beside me as he shoves the child into my arms and starts walking down the ramp. Steam puffs out from every nook and crevice of the ship as if it's wheezing out its last breaths.
Din hops off the ramp and turns around, holding his hand out for me. I don't exactly need his help getting off the ship, but I can't stop myself from taking advantage of the opportunity to hold his hand. I keep my head down so he won't see my blush as I jump off the end and land beside him. When he doesn't let go of me I look up, my eyes searching his helmet for any sign of what he's thinking.
A loud, bellowing laugh reaches my ears and I turn to see the familiar jovial face of Greef Karga as he approaches us. A grin spreads across my lips as I gently pull away from Din and jog over to the older man. My smile widens when I see Cara Dune at his side.
"Long time no see," Cara says, grinning at me as Din reaches us and stops at my side. "And still together." I nod my head, bouncing the child in my arms playfully until he giggles.
"Looks like someone could use some repairs," Greef adds, a knowing smirk on his lips. His short-cropped beard is a lot grayer than I remember it being, but otherwise, he looks just the same as he did a few months ago.
"How's my credit around here?" Din asks, shrugging one shoulder.
Greef laughs again, pressing one hand against his stomach. "I think something can be arranged," he replies, glancing sideways at Cara. "Isn't that right, Marshal?"
"I'm sure we can work something out," she says, rolling her eyes at his formality.
My eyebrows shoot up as I smile at her. "Marshal? Since when?"
She crosses her arms over her chest, shooting me a smug grin as Greef starts shouting orders to his mechanics. "Someone had to clean this place up after you two left."
I hum in response, but before I can say anything else, Greef eagerly plucks Grogu out of my arms. "And you, come here, little one!" He says, smiling sweetly at the little child. "Has Mando been taking good care of you, huh?" His smile falls flat a moment as he sends Din a warning glare. "Have you been taking good care of him?" I stifle a laugh as Din stiffens before Greef starts baby-talking the child again. "Did you hear it? He said 'yeah'!"
"Oh boy," I mutter under my breath, a chuckle escaping me. Greef's attention pulls over to me as he looks me up and down.
"And I haven't seen you asking for any bounty pucks in the last few months, so I assume our Mandalorian's been treating you well, too?" He asks, raising an eyebrow. My face flushes as I look down at my boots and clear my throat. I risk a glance up at Cara, which ends up being a mistake since she only has a teasing smirk to offer me.
"We're good," Din suddenly says, surprising us all. I look up at his helmet, a cautious smile slowly growing on my face as he nods to emphasize his words.
He doesn't take my hand, but I feel his knuckles brush against mine for the briefest of moments. He covers it by shifting his weight from one foot to another, making it look like an innocent accidental touch, but I know him a little too well now to be fooled by it.
Cara's smirk grows wider as her gaze flicks back and forth between us. "We can see that," she mutters, turning on her heel to lead us further into the town.
When we cross the threshold into what looks like the main marketplace, I'm surprised by how...domestic it all is. Vendors sit at their stations selling beautiful produce that almost makes my mouth water, and people mill around like they've got nothing to hide and nowhere to be. It's busier than Sorgan, but not nearly as busy as Theed.
